I WAS GOING TO COLLEGE IN ALEXANDRIA, MN ALL SUMMER I SAW RICERS. ON SOME OF THESE I WOULD SEE A SPOILER OR A WING AS RICERS CALL THEM. THE QUESTION IS WHY WOULD U WANT DOWN FORCE ON YOUR BACK WHEELS WHEN U GOT A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR???

OH I HAD A BLAST BEATING THEM RICE BURNS WITH DURING SCHOOL WITH MY STOCK ZX2
    THANX FOR ANY HELP

The cars that the ricers copy are roadrace cars. The ricers have wings because they make their cars look fast. In a drag race even a racing front driver has no wing on the back to unload the front tires. In road racing however, even a front drive car needs a wing to keep the rearend planted better. Reason: roadracing is a compromise, around slow speed corners you want the car to turn so you set up the suspension for neutral handling at low speeds, but, those settings will make the car darty and loose at high speeds because you've added a lot of negative camber and removed most of the caster and are probably running toe out on the front wheels(rear too). When you enter a corner at high speed the rear will want to come around due to your settings for low speed handling and some aerodynamic lift created by the shape of the car. A wing will put downforce on the rearend and allow you to have high and low speed neutral handling characteristics. since the wing generates very little downforce at low speed it won't mess with the handling in that speed range. Since 99.9% of all rice wagons don't go near a road course it's still OK to laugh heartily at the coffee tables bolted to the rear deck.

70ApolloStaged's response is dead on! Wings will actually slow a car down, so their use is only appropriate when you need that downforce in cornering.

I like to refer to them as park benches or bleachers.
