Just wondering if someone has a schematic of which wires go where on the starter solinoid. I have a 1973 LeSabre and would like to run new wires from the harness. I have misplaced my wiring book. Thanks in advance.

on the large stud, there needs to be three things. a large red battery cable, a red 10 gauge wire and a red 12 gauge wire. the 12 gauge wire runs the headlights and the 10 gauge wire runs everything else on the car.
many times there is a certain way that these three wires need to be installed. sometimes the big cable has a little "finger" on its ring to help it maintain a certain position on the solenoid and keep it away from adjacent heat sources.

there is a small post on the starter solenoid that is identified by an "S". it is the post nearest to the engine block. the purple "crank" wire goes on this post. this purple wire when energized, makes the starter turn the motor over.

there is another small post on the starter solenoid that is identified by an "I". it is the post farthest from the engine block. the yellow wire goes on this post. the "I" stands for Ignition and the wire runs directly to the coil to feed a full 12 volts to the coil while the engine is being started.

keep us posted on your progress.

the red wires that i described are sometimes black because the fused links that are attached to protect the red wires are black. the fused link actually as the large rings that attach to the big post of the starter.

let us know how it goes.

    maybe this pic will help.
