Just trying to put a value to the following items.

1970 Stage1 engine running. Complete from the air cleaner to the oil pan. Correct distributor and carb. Carb does have a stripped front feed but can be repaired. Missing the original alternator and water pump.

    "BB" transmission with converter.

3.42 rear end I have never been able to find the "OO" stamp on it but I'm sure it is original to the car. Maybe able to find the stamp after it is out of the car.

    Thanks, Alan

Was it your car on ebay? You are not thinking of breaking your car up, are you?

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Guess price would be dependent on mileage and recent rebuild (if any.) Without knowing more details, I would say $7500.00 to 10000.00 for the driveline.

I watched that car all week and thought it over. I just couldn't get by the mixed number deal. I assume it's a late 70 car? It can't be documented by Sloan? I thought it over, but it seems if I sunk the $ to fix it in it...and then the provenance would always be questioned...I dunno'! If it were mine, I would knock on doors and make calls, try to trace it back. I'm sure you did. It's really sad to think you would break it up...if you do. But...you got to do what you got to do. I hope it works out for you.

I watched it also but the buy in was a little high if you get the parts. It is your car so do what you want with it. Just could not make the numbers work. I am already way under water with my Suncoupe which is all numbers matching and I cannot do it again no matter how much I want a 70 stage 1. I agree you should be able to get the Sloan doc's that would help with the documentation and original options but what number do you use? Try both?
If I was the owner I would try to get some assistance from Buick as the screw up happened there. Maybe try selling the parts seperate then relist the car as a package deal.

The car is an early build car. Build date 12B. Documented through The GSX Historic Society. Car is in the Stage1 Registry. The production number (which is the last 6 digits of the vin) is 202244 which is the same number on the SS block and on the transmission. My phone has not stopped ringing since the auction ended so maybe it won't end up in parts. But I'm still interested in the values.

Pics of the car please or link to your eBay ad which may still be good, even if it's over.

    Frank,

If you look at the cowl tag, it states 44637 FL1 (GS455 from Flint) and the body #125099 matches Wayne's documentation exactly for the VIN.

The VIN is also an 'H' (Flint) with a matching serial number to Wayne's report.

Serial numbers were unique to the Flint plant for 'A' bodies.

It's the real deal, and a factory mess-up with the VIN plate only.

Good luck Alan, and see you in a couple weeks in OH.

    Alan,

I have no idea what the story is with the car, but can tell you that the drivetrain is worth a lot more in the correct car, than sold as parts. As I understand this thread, you have the numbers matching car for this drivetrain.

Conservatively, the value of it doubles, in the correct car.

Otherwise it's just parts, interesting parts for sure, but just parts.. to the serious car collector.

The days of 4K STG 1 carbs are behind us..

As parts, motor is worth aprox 5k, in decent running shape, as you described it. Trans about 1K, rear, maybe $800

While I am sure there are plenty of pie in the sky prices out there, I am talking a price that is going to get a sale. And those are about it.

There is very little inherent value to a "SS" motor, if you don't have the car it goes with. While you may find someone who is star stuck, with more money than brains, the odds are, in this economy, what I threw out there a probably pretty solid prices.

Marco...I do believe it's the real deal, I know everthing seems right just a #'s mess up. The prob is you sink X $ into the car, and you take it to be appraised for insurance. They check the #'s and it's "hinky". Then what, I have 40k+ in the car and what do I do? It's strict here in MA for registry crap, insurance + inspections, if you don't know somebody. Many states are looser. I'm going to SC next week for the Nats, I was thinking the car was in NC, I'm going right by there. The truck bringing my car back probably has room for 1 more car. But I just can't get by the numbers thing. It IS a nice car and seems like a decent price. It's hard to believe no bidders, I assume they think the same as me.

Looks pretty sturdy on actual details unless I am not seeing the whole picture. I would say that the car would be even more unique with the GM flub. No? SN freaks will have their issues but sounds like the car is what it is. Sticky but with details sounds like. Hell there are what 5 times the original amount of GSX's with all the clones out there? 70 GS 455 stamped Stage I would gamble on that personally. Be sad to see it stripped down.
