And another job well done with all the help and advice from the gang on V8Buick. Glad you are now out cruisin'!
If it is a true 1970 at least you will not have to worry about the RW507GR bearing deal... You will be using the A9 axle bearings. You might want to check to be sure it does have its original axle in the car before starting. Jim J D
Another Norwegian Hope the thread can be helpful. Where in Norway are you located, and have you posted any pictures of your car here? Good luck with your rebuild, there is nothing the guys here can't help you solve!
"BIG thing you need to worry about before beginning to think about rebuilding the rear... IS the rear a GS rear with the 68 69 sealed bearing? IF yes YOU MUST find RW507GR first...If the rear needs axle bearings. IF you can not find these STOP... That will be a BIG hurdle to over come. Everything else is just MONEY. " Jim J D
If equipped with the RW507GR bearing rather than the standard A9 Cup & Cone style try this NAPA #PR1563
If equipped with the RW507GR bearing rather than the standard A9 Cup & Cone style try this NAPA #PR1563
This bearing is NOT correct for any BOP rear...This is a repair bearing for a c-clip axle...NOT a bolt in axle. THIS IS NOT A PRESS ON BEARING.... I repeat this will not work...sorry.
Yea,that bearing pictured above is for a c-clip style rear, like a 12-bolt Chevy or 8.2" Chevy. I have the correct sealed bearings for the 68-69 Skylark/GS rears.
Yes, my rear axle have "cone type" wheel bearings Pictures of rear axle here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?305437-Rear-axle-parts-Buick-GS455-stg1-OO-type&highlight= The rear axle house is cleaned, sand blasted and painted. Have to buy some parts from Jim soon
Remember that 8.25 BUICK rears have 2 different axle bearings 1968 1969 usually are sealed bearings (ball bearing type reference right picture) or 1970 usually oiled bearings which can be (tapered or barrel straight type reference left picture). BUT still oiled from internal gear fluid unlike the sealed bearing which never gets oil from the center cavity gear oil.
