HELP!!! I am looking for the GM part number of the plastic cups which go under the felt washer inside a Buick distributor (see the picture). So far, I have learned GM sells them in packages of 10 but I cannot find the part number. Also, does anyone know if anything goes under the cup? I have taken apart several distributors and some have nothing inside while others have some kind of a badly-deteriorated foam (maybe felt). Any advice(or theories) are welcome. Thanks in advance. Brian
I'm not sure of the year of this particular distributor. I have about 10 distributors from various year Buicks. Most of them are from the 1970 to 1972 range, both big and small block engines (13 and 14 tooth drive gears). Brian
Brian - For the 'What Year' question, post the distributor part # and date code (on the outside perimeter of the base) and we'll figure it out :TU:
Marco, The distributor in the picture is stamped: 1111149 6E9. I checked a few of the others and they are: 1112080 0G17 1111158 7C15 1112016 9K3 (came on the GSX) 1111986 0B20 1112077 0H25 1112110 1H19 1112542 3K18 I have others but I didn't dig them out. I know the request for a part number is a tough question. I talked to a distributor re-builder and he gave me all the information EXCEPT the part number. Brian
1111149 looks like a 1966 model year distributor 6 manufactured in 1966 (1976 would be HEI) E9 - May 9th Anyone have a 1966 chassis manual to determine application? A Nailhead distributor???
According to George's site Here, 1111149 is for 1967 400-430 motors. They must have started making them in May for the upcoming model year :TU:
Marco, Thanks! That sounds correct. The distributor fits my 455 and 350 so I know it is the correct vintage for my car(s) and not a nailhead. Jim, No, not the rubber grommet. If you look carefully at the picture you can see the clear plastic ring on the upper shaft bearing (the bearing which holds the advance plate). This ring (cup - according to the distributor re-build guy) is normally pushed down the shaft into the recessed area at the bottom of the shaft covering the fins around the shaft (the area the cup covers has a hole in it which goes through the upper bearing. I assume engine oil goes thru this hole into the area covered by the cup). Brian
This is what I found 1111149= 1967 400ci 1x4bbl 430-ci 1x4bl 1111158*=1966 300 ci * means early 1111986= 1970 350 1x2bbl Thats all I found so far. If I find more I will let you know:Comp: I got the Numbers from Buick Used Parts Buyers Guide 1964 to 1970 I hope that I have helped a little, Don
Don, Thanks for the information. I plastic cup I am looking for fits all distributors regardless of year. I know GM sells replacement cups but I cannot find th part number anywhere. The distributors all have part numbers but so far no GM parts people can locate the cups based on the distributor number. I talked to a distributor re-build guy and he told me GM sells the cups (they work on many distributors, not just Buick) but you have to order them in packages of 10. He would not give me the GM part number (he wanted to re-build my distributor for me). I know they are available but my hands are tied without a part number for the cup itself. Brian
I called Brian, I called a friend who rebuilds distributors and left a message, I hope he calls back soon! Don
TTT Someone out there must know the answer or have access to someone who does How about you professional Buick restorers? Again, thanks. Brian
Brian - I would suggest posting this question for IgnitionMan Dave over at BuickStreet. If Dave doesn't know....not sure who would. You can also check out www.davessmallbodyheis.com and have a look at his site. His new contact numbers should be posted there....either now or soon (he just moved). For now - should be able to reach him at BuickStreet.
4 on the floor, Thanks for the part number and web address. I ordered the part already. Do you have any idea what goes under the seal? Again, thanks. Brian
