Its not just the Chevelle. Look at the prices people are asking for all types of old cars. The average person can't afford to buy one because everyone thinks they have a diamond in the ruff. The BJ auction probably makes sellers happy though but at the buyers expense.

I agree that it's all old cars now. Lot guys are pretty P.O.d because Barret Jackson has pushed the price of old cars out of existance for the average Joe. You could of been saving a lot of money over the years for just a fixer upper and now even those are unaffordable. You can thank the celebrity folk for helping those unrealistic prices. But if people are willing to pay those prices for an old car, that's the free market. I'm sure the guy on the receiving end of that doesn't mind. If you've noticed, even clones are starting to go for rediculous prices. I personally think a lot of these old cars are way over priced. What can you do ??? :( :ball: John.

I know people are crazy. I sold a 71 chevelle it was a rusty stripped shell and I got 800 for it. I bought my skylark because it looks awosome and I got it for 3000. Just picked up a nova for and an elcamino and didnt spend over 1500 for both of them combined:Brow: :Brow: . But I will probably own a chevelle again. Not all of them are over priced you just need to know who to buy from:Brow: . Im looking at aquiring a 71 chevelle SS 454 4speed CHEAP:Brow: like I said just need to know who to buy from.

As long as people will Spend, the Prices will rise on ANYTHING. It Isn't Just @ BJ.
Look at what the prices of a Radio Delete Plate is going for, and the Dealers used to throw them in the Trash.
You also get the Guy that "Has 1 Just like the car that went through the Auction!"
Other than it is a 4 Door, a 6 Cyl., with an Automatic, (Better Than a 4spd)
and it is Earl Scheib Baby S#*T Yellow, and the car that went through was a $10k Red.
The Diamond in the Ruff, usually is a piece of Lignite, but the Seller's Brother (Bondo Billy) can mark it "Just Like New" for $500, BECAUSE, "HE is a Body Man, and Gets a DISCOUNT on Parts!!!"
    Just remember, P.T.Barnum was Right!!!!!

Prices for '68 and later Chevelles actually were noticeably softer this year at Barrett-Jackson. A nice '70 SS 454 went for $27K.

During the first two days at B-J, before Speed TV arrives, cars sell at realistic prices, such as the aforementioned Chevelle, a '65 tripower GTO at $28K, a '68 GTO four-speed convertible for $30K, a '68 Olds four-speed 442 for $25K, a '69 440 Super Bee for $27K, and a "show & go" custom '69 Mustang fastback for $23,500.

My brother-in-law bought the Mustang. The previous owner wanted to buy a house and sold the car to make a down payment. He provided with the car documentation of an 11-year restification and out-of-pocket expenses of $45K.

Barret-Jackson is not to blame for classic cars prices....retiring baby boomers are the culprits. They have more discretionary income than previous generations and a lot of them are hunting for cars like those they drove or wanted in their heyday.

    How do I know??

    I'm 57, retired from a career in law enforcement, and I have a '67 GTO, '68 442, and '69 GTO...the cars I couldn't afford around the time I graduated high school in 1968.

i noticed that when a lot of investors got rich in the tech markets in 1999 & 2000, that classic/muscle car prices started to rise significantly! yes the baby boomers are forcing the prices up but so are the speculator investors.
there is nothing wrong with chevelles. i owned a new on in 1970 and would purchase another in a heartbeat.
