I purchased a set of new GM sill plates from Year One today. Has anyone bought a set of New GM ones from them? Not the repros they offer but originals. Just wanted to hear anyone's ideas on this, they are on back order for over a month so I wont be getting them anytime soon. Just wanted to know what to look forward to or not. I need a pretty much perfect set, I asked the guy on the phone to leave the technical department a message to get me out a set that had been inspected before being shipped, but that is sounding like a shot in the dark. It would just suck to wait over a month, and get them and find out their not perfect. Then I would be doo doo up a creek for what, another month or so. Anyones ideas are helpful here, thanks. :beer

They should be as good as the originals, if that's what you are after. The best you are going to find would be the GM parts, so if they're not good enough there's not much you can do.

Are you saying your local Buick dealer has sill plates for your 72 in stock?

That is what I am saying. But there is another side to that. I went into a buick dealership and I went through 5 sets and not one of them were any good. They all had a crease down the middle and apparently it is looking to be a factory defect. The parts manager at that point would not do anything for me, he said he did not want to go through all the trouble of ordering sets of them and sending them back. So I went to a chevy dealer down the street from them and they said they would take on the job of finding me a perfect set. From there if they cant find a good set in stock at their local warehouse then they were going to have to go to Reno, NV to get a set, and if they did not have a perfect set there then they would have to go to Michagan for the final stop. It sounds like a bunch of BS, but what do you do? Sit back and what to see what they come up with. :puzzled: :Dou:

Originals will have the two small rivets in the Fisher body emblem, replacement GM moldings will not. Building a cutting edge concours car, rivets can be added.

My only other complaint about the sill moldings is the cost. I've been buying them for last 15 years & GM has hung it our #ss the last few years on these pieces :af:

What part number do I ask for for my 70 Skylark? How much can I expect to pay for them?

I don't have the part # off hand, but I paid just over $90 for a new GM set. If I ever get a good set.
