The last piece of the puzzle, apparently, I need a small thinner metal. I have 2 yokes but they hit the tail shaft housing inside.
Are we talking about diameter of the yoke or length being the issue If diameter its easier to get a new tail housing that fits the yokes you have already. Pre 67 trans use a smaller OS, but the splines and shaft are the same as later.
Diameter, it fits on the shaft coming out of the trans but hits the housing inside. It only gets on there about an inch. Doesn't actually go in the transmission.
If anyone has a 1.68 yoke for a 400 or a short tail shaft housing for a 400. One that is big enough to accept a1.78 yoke.
I have a 375 trainy,I was just showing it to Larry, the Wizard,I also have the yoke for it.I don't understand what you are looking for,but I also have a yoke for a regular 400,but its a regular length.Bruno.
Bruno, my 400 has the less common 1.68 housing, tail shaft housing. I located a 1.685 yoke that should work.
I believe if I remember that the more standard 400 yoke is 1.88 inch od. Not sure what the earlier size is. So you need a tail shaft housing that bolts to trans that accept the more common 1.88 in yoke, or the smaller of yoke. There are new repop short shaft. If that's what you need, for under 60 bucks
