I can only imagine what I was exposed to. Mounting and balancing wheels at Goodyear and all the lead weights, all the chemicals and brake dust. The exhaust fumes from working in repair shops, shooting....I don't even want to think about it.

Yeah me too Jason, I drive a diesel truck everyday on the freeway. The good thing is that God made our body so good we have systems to filter that stuff out.

Don't worry about me, I'm half Italian and put garlic in just about everything I cook to eat so no need to take it in the way you do.(that's how I knew what I wrote)

One of the Italians secret to long life. I knew you had merit behind your work when you said it comes out your pores.
My mom cooks with a lot of garlic. But I've read when heated up it looses some of the good stuff.

My dad always told me to get the lead out of my ass - maybe he was onto something a long time ago and didn't even know it...

my dad had a vile of mercury he'd recovered from mercury switches .. every once in a while he'd pour it into a bowl and we'd play with it - sticking our fingers in it or grabbing a spoonful and letting it roll around in our palm

So @BQUICK what did the doctors suggest?? I do know that high mercury can impact your personality. The term "mercurial" is a reference to the quick temper people with mercury exposure get. The same for the reference to Mad Hatters - it came from people going nuts from heavy exposure to mercury making hat brims. As someone mentioned, you must still be getting exposure to lead as that should decline over time??

I was not suggesting he was -- just that it's something to be attentive to

Elemental mercury is in a different state than methyl mercury....it's complicated.

No doubt had something to do with putting a Buick motor in a Jaguar....
I wonder if it was higher back when I did that?.....and some other hair brained things.

You mentioned you " ATE quite a bit of tuna and swordfish" . Do you still eat a lot of mature fish?
The younger smaller fish are supposed to contain less mercury.
Have you had your water tested at your house?
You want to make sure you are not still ingesting this stuff.

Same here, except I broke the switches open and collected it when I was 13. I still have the vile (a plastic dime holder full) but I have not touched it in 40 years.
Always wondered what I should do with it, take it to a hazardous waste collection day would probably work.

I do have a large mercury column barometer 3 foot that my great grandfather made. It's in the next room from where I am right now! Eeek
It is the non sealed type!
It broke years ago and I stupidly vacuumed up the spill. Then my wife at the time used the vacuum all over the house. Maybe why she went nuts....got hospitalized for irritable bowl syndrome IBS and my son got Crohn's disease.
Just now discovering the cause 25yrs later!
