We go to Cocoa Beach every Labor Day weekend with a group of about 100 people. Guess this year is off...
oh goodie. I just returned Tuesday evening (27th) from a two week home makeover in Broomfield CO, (Denver area) just in time to become involved in this DORIANCANE thingy that apparently will be a RAINMAKER GULLY WASH'N FLOOD POTENTIALLY MAJOR TROPICAL storm... ...sheeesh, . . .guess I shudda stayed in Denver... Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Ohh My, you are SOOO right! Can you imagine the flooding and all the Pythons and Alligators would slither to the land and Indiantown would certainly succumb to an awful battleground... Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Orlando area for the strike? https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_grap...ind+png/024109_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind.png
Avoid Orlando this weekend https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at5+shtml/084434.shtml?cone#contents
Big issue right now is that it has slowed down so much. That makes it: -- unpredictable -- prone to strengthening as it sits there and soaks up nice warm water. -- more damaging because it takes so long to pass through wherever it hits.
Yes, but people from the coast are gonna start heading everywhere, and I imagine it will start Saturday, Sunday at the latest. So driving to or from O-town for pleasure does not seem, well, pleasurable. Now that we aren't going to Cocoa Beach to surf, my daughter has the option of playing a soccer tournament in, yep, Orlando. I think we'll skip that too.
From my perspective, here in Naples we should be OK as things stand now. The whole state of Florida except for the panhandle is in the cone, but that's because the storm is still 1,000 miles away. Assuming that the European model is correct, Dorian will come very close to Naples, but it will have to cross the state before it gets here; at it's predicted slow rate of movement, it should weaken considerably before it gets here. If I lived on Florida's East coast I would be really worried. Getting out on 95 just ahead of the storm is not going to be fun. The local TV news has already broadcast news that supplies such as gas cans, water, and gasoline are already in short supply.
Yes for the center but no for the wind field. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at5+shtml/084434.shtml?mltoa34#contents
