Went to the Muncie Dragway (IN) on Friday. RPM Transmisson rented the track all day and opened it to the public. This was only my second time at the track. It was a blast! 455 edelbrock heads ported by gessler 301/189 @.550, soild cam 242/246@.050 .561/.570 inch lift, 1.65 ratio roller rockers, TA SP1, Quick Fuel SS830, built 2004r, 34-3600 stall ford 9" 3.73 gears M/T street slicks @ 16psi. Any suggestions to improve my combo are welcomed.

cray1801 Too much is just right.

More practice launching and some tuning and you'll be running low 11's. Cooler weather is coming so expect some gains here too. I suggest marking your rear tires to keep a check on tire slip on the rim. There's more there in the 60' and 1/8, just keep working on the launch and shift points. I doubt you can floor it off the line, but get it to hook and a tire will become airborne.

Take it to a chassis dyno and get the fuel curve and timing "just right". I'd shoot for 12.6 to 12.8 AFR at WOT and ~14 cruise. The dyno will save you lots of time doing this and reduce the variables compared to track tuning. Congratulations on the nice times!

Biggest problem with those cars in my opinion is rear tire size. There just isn't much room back there. 60 Ft. was decent. You need traction!! Cool car though I always liked them. I have a friend that has one. Peace, Mike D.

Thank for the suggestions for improvement, cray1801, I will give it a try. I have the biggest tires I can get under the car now which are 275/50r15 MT ET street, a friend of mine told me to go with hoosier's slicks and forget about the et street's. I have not checked to see if I can get the Hoosier's in the same size. I'm happy with what the car is doing now. I think at this point I need to better my skills at the launch:3gears:

They get those cars going into the 9's with a 9 inch slick.

Practice will get your 60 foot down. You should be getting 1.6 or better.

    Practice.

    Nice runs bro. Good mph.

Sounds like a lot of HP, from that MPH and weight. It gives me hope for my combo I'm planning, which will use fully ported Eddy heads but a hydraulic cam... Good job! RB

Pratice pratice pratice is what I plan to do, launching is a skill. I was told that Munice Dragway was under new ownership and comments were be made about how nice the track is now. As far as my hp I'm guessing 500 at least. I have made a cowel induction hood for the car, but I need to finish up the under side to make it fresh air induction. I post some pics of the hood and car. Thanks

you need a bigger footprint if you want to hook and mph go 30x9 or 29.5x9 a 15x7 4 3/4 backspace fit ok.youll hook better too around 15 psi
you gotta be runnin 22 or more in those drag radials and your less than 26 in right now right? way too small 4 a buick
you runnin open headers?if not un cork it
otherwise try a 950 dp with a 1 inch spacer, or shave the heads and boost the cam
    i like 260 @ .050 to 274@.050 range myself but you need 11-1 up
make sure your running the right blend fuel and the proper heat range plugs i use diff spares to tune at the track to find the zone, too much octane slows you down.1 time i switched from 110 to 104 cuz its all they had and picked up .3 !!!!
i like midwest converters out of rockford il,real good people and product, well worth the $
    good luck

Thanks!! I love the looks of the car. People on the street are so amazed that it is a 65 Buick Skylark. Not to many of them around were I'm located.

Schaweet ride man! Like others have said, there's a lot left on the table here it seems. Work on those 60' times and then look for the true "tune" the engine likes. I've always gotten the 60' first, if it can't hook with a crappy tune, it surely won't hook with a dead nuts on tune.

I think what you are seeing is the heat sheild to protect the air bags from the exhaust.. I had the same thing on mine.
