I looked at my picture and then looked at the car again I think what everyone is seeing is the exhaust pipe as it exits the muffler and makes the turn going over the axle. Sometimes a picture is not worth a 1000 words. Oh well... I appreciate everyone's input and suggestions, the best thing about this run is that it was a grudge match against my friend that has a 72 z28 with a built Chevy 400, and he use to say that he could beat my Skylark, but not any more!!
Nice CAR! I like how clean it is for a street/strip car and show it proudly. Nice kill on the Z28! I tried to do the same with my car. I dont know how fast it is since its a convertible but I will run it someday this fall. I will only be once.
Nice car! I guess I'm backwards, but I always start at the rear of the car when I build one. Do the suspension, rear, gear , axles etc. Once I get it where I can get some tires under it and it is going to hook, then I think about a convertor then a engine. Just the way I do it. I hate going to the strip and can run in the 1.40s 60'. Jim N.
Nice to see another street car running good with that kind of a combo. I just had a customer car run 11.53@ 117 with a vary similair set up. he has to do some work on the suspension of his car he has nothing done to it and I mean nothing. I had to tell him to take the front sway bar off it after bpg he had run 11.74 with it on down there. Good job for the first time out the MPH show you still have some ET to go.:TU:
I have a Ford center section built by Quick Performance 3.73 gears. I have learned a great deal from everyone on this site it is an excellent resource for someone new like me, and now I learn something else new, I have never heard of removing the front sway bar to better your ET, how and why does this work? Thanks
The reason I asked about the center section is I run a ford 9" housing with the Strange brand aluminum chev 12 bolt center (frees up hp over the ford). Noticed yours was alumimum and wondered how it was holding up. Always foot braked and held up fine but now for the last couple years have a trans brake...havent had it out a lot since the brake but don't think it will be strong enough now...
I have made a lexan air pan for my 65's cowl scoop hood. If you want I could send you my old one so you could make a templet or have one made. It could be plastic or metal.....let me know if you want to see pictures. FYI - i have one for standard holley and one for dominator. By the way is that a steal hood? What size rear tires do you run. Regards, Jim
If you could send me some pics of it that would be great! We can go from there. I appreciate the offer! thanks. I made my cowel hood with a Goodmark steel cowel, I had to rework it a bit, but it worked out ok. I run MT ET Street Radials P275/50R15 Size Equivalent 26x11.5R15 My rim has a 4.75 back spacing, 7" wide and my axle measures 55" from backing plate to backing plate. They just fit with no rubbing. Again thanks
My 65 was 3500/3550 lbs. give or take. That was with a/c (no compressor),power windows and 6pt molly cage. I haven't weight it since I removed all of the AC and put a fuel cell in. Jim
Here are the pics I promised. Sorry about the quality as I used my phone....but you get the idea. Jim
Did you and your buddy with the Z have them at Zanesville a couple of years ago? I think I remember your car driving North on I-69 after the show. Great car!:TU:
Yes, that would have been us, that was a nice car show! Thanks for posting the pics of the air dam I will see what I can do.
Let me know if you want me to send you an old one or a template. Would be glad to do either. Just let me know. Jim
