I went to the you pick your part salvage yard this weekend and found a 1970 Riviera with a 455 engine. The original 4 barrel quadrajet carberator is still on the engine. Does anyone need it for one of their cars? I did not ask the yard for a price, but if I am able to help someone out, just let me know before it gets taken off the motor by someone else (this item won't be on there long). Please also include in your response what you are willing to pay for this carberator, so that it will be worth my time to remove and ship this item. Thanks:TU:

Wheelz, Did you ever get that big $400 for that power window set? I am suprised at you (selling your stuff for big bucks):dollar: . This carburater is in like new condition. The engine is very clean on this car, and I have taken most of the other parts off of it for backups. At the price that you are offering, I don't think it will cover the price to get it out of the salvage yard, and as for shipping???? No offense, but I would be better off pulling this one for myself as a backup carb....hmm maybe that is the way I should go???? Any other offers worth my 100 mile round trip to the salvage yard?:idea2:

"Please also include in your response what you are willing to pay for this carberator"

YOU NEVER SAID THE THING WAS LIKE NEW CONDITION??? You asked for an offer...so that is what you got. Perhaps next time YOU should tell US what you really want for a part...

As for the power window setup... I dont understand your response: BIG BUCKS??... I've been told $400 is the going rate for these CONVERTIBLE power windows.

Thanks Wheelz for your response. Unless someone else steps up for this carb, I may honestly consider going back and picking it up for myself (even though I don't currently need it). It really is a very nice carb. I have no idea what the going price is for a carb like this, so your point is well made:beers2: . I just hate piling up car parts that I don't need, when someone else's car isn't running because they are looking for one of these.

    Sobair,
Do you know the date code? Can you post pictures? My pay range would be between $0< wrong date code $150.00 < right date code:pray:
    Let me know...

Sorry no pictures. I would not know where to begin looking for numbers on a carberator. Like I stated earlier, this is an original 1970 Riveria carb and I am not sure that the date codes would be the same for a GS of the same year? If numbers are really important, then maybe this carb is not worth selling. Thanks for your response.

FWIW Sobair...I'm NOT trying to be a smartypants but, HOW do you know if its an original 70 Riviera 455 QJ carb IF you dont know the numbers????? ya see...THAT is "ONE OF" the reasons people ask for such details... for example: 7040247 would be correct...but I've seen 7040240 on these cars too! NOT too long ago, you could buy these at salvage yards for $15-20!! THOSE DAYS ARE BEHIND US NOW. So I suggest, if you can buy this carb reasonably NOW, you should just do it! (my guess is that that CARB is already long gone!!!) Primarily because nowadays, if that Rivi were in any pick'n pull yards around here...it is one of the first items to get nabbed!!! These old QJ's disappear long before the car ever gets to the public! Once you get it home I can show you where the numbers are....THAT would be a very important selling point. Thanks for your reply Wheelz, I know that you are not a bad guy and I know that I started it and my comment about the power windows was probably out of line...I am planning on going back to the yard on Friday to see if it is still there (it was there last Saturday) when I finished striping some of the other parts off the engine. I just called the yard and got a price on the carb and it is worth me picking up. I am not looking to make any more money off of the carb than my time, gas and shipping and will probably end up keeping it for my own stock.

Now about these numbers on the carb, where do you find them and what book are you using as a reference? I didn't think that people would be such number watchers unless they had an every other part correct car, which is pretty rare now days. I will pm if it is still there when I go on Friday. Thanks for your help. Be careful or I may have to add you to my Buddy list :TU: Just kidding. Thanks

P.S. Wheelz, you would not happen to have a 1970 455 fan shroud in good condition or know where I could get a nice reproduction one. Not like the crap they sell at OPIG?:Do No:

I CANNOT. :Do No: seem to find any of my pix of QJ's identification number location..I KNOW. I have tons of reference pix but cant findum...sheeesh. Tomorrow I'll dig out an old QJ and snap a few UNLESS SOMEONE out there has pix to share with Sobair. ..and re: 70 fan shroud....NOT. AND the original shroud I have for this 70 Stg 1 (my avatar) I've been trying to finish since 2004 is cracked across the bottom..but I will have to mend it anyway. Sorry I cant helpYa on that one! I wish I had that kind of money and a storage place for such a motor. I did notice a couple of differnces on the motor from its GS Skylark brother. For example the fuel pump is in a different place on the car and the driver's side head has a sensor in it next to the fire wall (looks like a temperature sensor). Wish I knew somebody close by that needed it. It is really a clean motor, all the parts that I have taken off have been in great condition, who ever had this car, really kept the motor up. Wheelz, don't worry too much about the numbers, but I will definately pm you on friday night to let you know what the numbers are. Thanks for your help:TU:

I have one(I think). Came off a 105k untouched 70 wildcat. I can post pictures tonight if need be. It is also an early motor with a build code of A16. I forgot, I had it running for about 200 miles without problem.

pics of carb and numbers. There may be more numbers but would need to know where to look. number on this carb is 7042240 with a MB date code? Is that an August, week 2 1969 built carb? This is a 72 carb. I found that out by looking at the site provided.

Thanks Dale and 67 Grand Sport. You guys are great! Now I am just hoping that the carb is still on the car tommorrow...if it is, it won't stay on the engine for long! Going to take a few other parts off while I am there...wish I could take the engine and trans that are there, the rearend was still in the car the last time I was there :TU:

Well guys, I just got back from the junkyard and I got the carb, accelerator assembly with turbo 400 switch on the assembly, trans tube, console mounting brace, and a few other parts. I took the base plate with the carb and all of the linkages and hoses...everything. The carb as I stated is a true 70 Riveria carb with the part number 7040247. This was a console, bucket seat car with all the bells and whistles. The carb looks very nice. I got the air cleaner too and it looks like brand new. At the bottom of the base, it has the numbers painted on it from the factory still and the numbers look like they were just paint on yesterday... I really wish that you guys had access to this car, I know we could finish picking it apart. Thanks again for everyone's help and the information.:TU:

After all the education I got from this venture and having to take time off from work early to go get the carb, I have decided that it is probably not going to be worth my time to try and sell this carb and get low balled on a price, so I have decided to keep this carb for one of my motors. Just because it is not for a GS or GSX 455, does not mean it won't run well with a 455 GS. As a matter of fact, the Riv's had higher horsepower numbers with the same 455 engine. Could this have been do to the carbs that sat on these identical engines??? :3gears:

The carb and the base plate (along with everything else) has a good home now :TU: Thanks again guys
