    Nick,
If you have a late 70 non-Stage 455 GS I think I have a few emission decals left. I made them for a 70 GSX that I had. These are the larger decals for the cars with the steel rad covers.

Here is what I currently have from Jim Osborne. Yes, late 70, 03D, metal cover. If what I have is in any way incorrect, or what you have is in any way better, I am very interested

    Mucho thanks,
    Nick

Hi Brett, question for you, is that the original decal off your 72 Stage 1 or another car???

I just did some messing around tonight myself. I bought the air cleaner decal for my 72 vert and it looks nice except it has the emblems vertical on the RH side of the decal and the air cleaner p/n on the LH side.

But I have a picture of the decal on an all original (more or less) 72 vert and it looks like yours except for different letter and part number. Built one month later than mine, same plant. Funny thing is, my 71 decal looks just like yours but has wrong letters. So I scanned both, imposed the correct letters on the correct decal and made my own. Worked like a charm, except I don't have glossy paper to print on, and i didn't resize the letters before doing the first print.

So just trying to sort out the decal thing, seems everyone thinks your style is the early cars and 72 had the new style (top in pic) but apparently not so. What is the build date of your car if you don't mind me asking?

Pic attached. I don't think I did anything wrong, I had to buy both decals anyway, just won't be using the one so nobody lost any sales.

And yeah I know this thread is 5 months old!!

    Tim,

That's the original sticker on my air cleaner....build date of my car is (I think) 12/71.

I'm on my way out the door but I'll check later on....

    NICE job on the stickers!!!

    Duane,
Any chance you have any left of the '71 350-4V or the solenoids?

The correct letters for a 71 GS air cleaner Keep All GM Sticker are "BC" which is also used in 70. They are a different animal than 72! Osborne Sells the BC stickers and they are OK. If you want nice GS-455 and Stage-1 air cleaner stickers contact the Northeast chapter of the GS club as they reproduced the correct styles that say made in the USA on the GS-455 decal and the Stage-1 have the raised letters.

    Steve C,
The 71 350 4-bbl automatic decals that I made have a letter code of "BF". They were for very late 71 cars with the electronic solenoid, instead of the regular mechanical dashpot. These emission decals also had an "Adjustment Procedure Idle Control Solenoid" decal beneath them. I also make the "adjustment" decals for the automatics.

If these will help you, let me know.
    Duane

PS. I am sure I have one of the solenoids, but definitely do not have the wiring harness that clips from the solenoid into the engine harness.

    Duane,
The pink wires start at the engine harness. Power associated with the transmission switch. One side hot all the time for the idle solenoid. Send me a PM if interested.
    Maybe a trade?

    Nick,
I just saw your post about the late 70 non-stage 1 emission decals so that's why I am answering now.

The decal I made looks nothing like the one you pictured. Mine was copied to match the original one from my 70 GSX and has part application code "BO" at the bottom, along with a part number. It looks very similar to the Stage 1 decals except for certain wording and adjustment settings.

Tim, in response to your question on the Keep All GM stickers. The assembly manual for 70 gives the code for a GS air cleaner as "BC". The 71 assembly manual does not show the code on the same page but the air cleaners were the same and original 71's I have seen had the BC code. I do not know too much about the 72's but if you have access to a 72 assmbly manual I would check the air cleaner page. I would believe if the picture above is an original 72 it would be correct. Buick probably used a different code for this year because od the lop-sided air scoops. Just my guess and I am sticking to it. Maybe Duane can shed some light on this. What years is BC used for? Also the NJ code pictured above is an Olds code I believe for a ram air set-up. I think most Buicks began with B. To add even more confusion to this I think there is a different two letter code for a heavy duty air filter option. :puzzled:

Yes, I believe Duane touched on this in another thread....

I thought it was this one but looked back and didn't find it.

Oddly enough, the 72 assy manual I have does not show the decal on the side of the air cleaner at all, nor does it have pics or p/ns. It does show the big ones (GS455, etc). Thats why when my "1972" air cleaner decal showed up I looked at it and went WTF? Didn't seem right...this is the top one in the pic I posted earlier with the vertical emblems on the RH side of the decal.

It DOES however show the oil change interval decal that goes on the drivers wheelhouse upside down so you can read it from beside the fender...LOL..only Canadian cars too it says. Anyone ever seen THAT???LOL

Bretts decal looks identical to what I thought I had style wise (still looking, I was sure I took pics of what was left of the original decal on my air cleaner, but it may have been film shots as that was 6 years ago now....could take a while to sort through that).

I guess my big question is, when did GM switch from the horizontal emblems on the side to the vertical style like I was sold as a 72 or is that a different style for something else? Notice it (again, top one in earlier pic) uses the A212CW air cleaner element and also has correct letter code, is that the HD version?

Pic of late sept 71 flint built 72 gs 350 vert shown. Was one owner car, current owner was playing with air filters!

    Tim,

If you're willing to make a couple, I'd like to buy some....

Doesn't seem like we'll be getting the correct ones anywhere any time soon...

    Steve C,
I checked thru my 71 parts stash, and I am missing the wiring, solenoid, and the 455 solenoid bracket. The parts I have are not for my year car/engine combo and will not work. Basically I need the three parts that you have pictured on your intake.

I do have some of the 71 "BF" 350 4-bbl automatic decals, and the "adjustment" decals for the automatics. What do you have to trade?

I owe ya anyway, get me your addres and I'll try to make the one you need and fire it out.

On another note, have you ever forgotten something so obvious its painful?? I kept the actual decals off both my cars, so here is the actual decal off my ragtop. The big space at the top was for original emissions decal but its still attched to the cover at this point.

Man we really took over this thread....sorry guys...
