What do you think it'll go for? looks nice. https://www.mecum.com/lots/PJ0617-287912/1971-buick-gsx/ Highlights Gorgeous restoration performed on this rare GSX 455/350 HP engine Turbo 400 automatic transmission Positraction rear end Power front disc brakes Power steering Ram Air hood Hood mounted tachometer Factory bucket seats with console Deluxe upholstery Factory AM/FM radio Remote left mirror Front and rear spoilers Rally wheels with Goodyear tires Stratomist Blue with Black interior
This depends on whether the potential buyers realize it is not a factory 455 GSX and that it cannot even be verified as being a GSX. (There is a good chance it may have been a 350 GSX from the factory). The Mecum ad is cleverly worded wouldn't you say?
I have in my possession the original 350 motor for this car And,it is an X..Noone seems to care that the motor in it isn't the one it came with though..
No --you would think it would be clearly mentioned in their internet ads for the auction. Here is a discussion regarding this car. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...thing-you-may-want.220975/page-3#post-2677570
I can remember 30 years yrs. ago. There was a Black GSX running around in Norh Pittsburgh. It had a 350 in it . It was supposed to be real. How many GSX 350. Were made anyone know.?
For 71 here is what is registered. http://www.buickgsx.com/. 124 total were made this model year. I am not sure if Mark could get the engine displacement splits from the daily car reports. For the 72 model year------ http://www.buickgsx.com/1972 GSX Original Information.pdf
Rich, I was going to put a deposit down on this car but the guys son wasn't home. I got beat out on it. The guys dad showed me all the stuff that they had for it.I was told all new 1/4s doors front end was new GM stuff. The motor and trans were not in the car when I looked at it. It had many tell tale signs that it was legit. I may be wrong but I thought they told me they had paperwork for it. The car was sitting a mile from the Buick dealership it was sold at. It had buckets, auto and a 350. It also had a hood tach, front and rear spoiler and an N25 rear bumper.Duane looked at this car after Dave bought it and was totally secure about it being a real X.
yeah and the Transmission Not sure I have the transmission but I have the motor and some of the internals yet I would just like to see them reunited. Dave never passed this car off as all original. It hit the 11's and was a great running car
Wanted to mention there is another 1971 GSX 455 4 speed car for sale recently. Gold with black stripes. I remember looking at it years ago and although it was truly believed to be a real X at the time it was a 350 4 speed car. Amazing how they all become 455 cars after the restorations
We are going to learn something from this auction. We are to find out whether a restored GSX 350 with a transplanted 455 engine will sell for more, and maybe a lot more, than a restored numbers matching GSX350. The most I remember seeing a GSX350 sell for is maybe 50K. But some of you may have a better handle on the sales numbers.
Yes great running Pat, but let's not send that car into the legendary performance area. The car got into the 12's with the stock appearing 455, not 11's. 11's with a stock appearing 455 back in '96 or so would have been Gessler territory. If that car hasn't been freshened up since Dave sold it then whoever had it has been taking great care of it.
It has been a long time since that car was around,I thought he got a 11.99 but maybe it was a 12.still not bad for then.. I thought it had Gessler heads and a Magnaflow exhaust, but my mind may be wrong.Still a great car.
I find only 7 for the 71 model year to be different than my own experience over the years. Let me ask Mark M.
