Looks like a nice vert - I guess perhaps the color is driving away potential buyers.

more than the color is, it being a three on the tree is probably the problem...tho' they only made 6 such convertibles....or does he mean 3 spd auto ?

Are we sure what engine it has? Seller says 350 horsepower, what Buick engine was rated as such in 71? I can't make out the emblems either (cellphone)...no interior shot to show the pedals,so tantalizing...

I have talked with the owner a couple of times! I also have pics but not one time would he answer my question about this being 3 speed auto or 3 speed stick shift :Do No:

From what I could find out it is a 350 CID 3 spd with a clutch. He thinks it is HP but it is 350 CID air cleaner decal.

    His reply.

"In 1971, the GS model I have came with "350" on the Air Filter and means 350 HP. It also has "ram air injection" which sucks extra gas into the rochester 4 barrell carbureator when the gas pedal is "floored. It was the standard V-8 engine. very unusually, it came with a 3 speed shift on the "Tree" [stearing column] and has a clutch to operate the "H" configuration - reverse being the 4th gear."

I will cut him some slack. He's the original owner which means he's probably in his 70's or somewhere close to that. He may not be a true "car guy" to know all the correct terminology. He might even be regurgitating what he remembers the salesman telling him in 71.

I like it. I think a set of 15's with some white letter tires would make it look way more muscular. Do I dare say I would install a Hurst 3 speed shifter and ditch the 3 on the tree?

If it looks anything like the pics in real life, its worth the coin.

It's not the color I would paint it, but it is a whole lot better than the cortez gold mine showed up in. Switching to black:TU:

Well considering the one on eBay that is in another post is about junk and is 1 of 51 and going for over $6K I would rather buy this one which seems to be 1 of 6. I know some would be upset but it would get a quick change to a 4 spd on the floor and just put back the original parts. About $1K would take care of that and you would have a car ready to drive. This another case where rare does not equal to big dollars.
I think the brown looks better than the beige.

The old timers loved the three on the tree. He probably special ordered it because that's what he had always driven. My grandpa did the same thing. He ordered a 78 Chevy Sport 4x4 with the 3 on the tree. That is a rare car for sure.

Being one of the old timers 72 I can't remember loving " Three on the tree " But if I were to buy the conv. I would either go 4 speed or leave it alone. At least I have mellowed enough to leave the 350 in place. Years back the 350 would have been out of there before the exhaust manifolds were cooled off.

The column shift is? Well when my 64 was shifted that way people would ask what the third pedal on the floor was for. I would have left it alone had mine been a synro three speed. So I now shift 4 on floor.
Only collectors care about how many where built and I don't think many collect unique Buick.

He didn't use his usual descriptive of "pig" for a car not of his liking. He compared this one to a three legged horse.
Of course, I can't find fault with him for pointing out his dislike for certain cars. Every car he does like; He buys.
