Well, don't get me wrong. I don't think anyone is hurt by someone providing these as art for the walls of a few Buick fans, and one would look good behind my bar, but you have to think of what's posted on the internet as forever and I would hate to see someone get in a lot of trouble for something like this where they are not even making any money to speak of. Think of the number of people on this site every day and think of the diverse background of those people. Sort of dangerous to think that anything posted here isn't seen by any and all who could have a stake in it. If I were an upper automobile executive, I would be looking at forums like this myself, that is to say if my intent was to try and build cars that car people get excited about.
Current copyright law From http://www.copyright.gov: "copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years. For an anonymous work, a pseudonymous work, or a work made for hire, the copyright endures for a term of 95 years from the year of its first publication or a term of 120 years from the year of its creation" But.... and here is the important part for us..... the law changed a while ago and works created before 1978 are treated differently. Nice Chart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PD-US_table.svg If it was made between 1964 and 1977 and has a copyright notice printed on it, the copyright lasts for 95 years. If it was made between 1964 and 1977 and does NOT have a copyright notice printed on it, it is ALREADY IN PUBLIC DOMAIN. So, Tom, you really need to look at the fine print and see if there is a copyright notice or symbol on the poster. Oh, and I have access to a scanner that would easily be able to scan the poster.
Bill, thanks a lot for posting the copyright information and the scanner offer. I have thoroughly inspected the poster and it does not have any trademark or copywright on it. As I said before it is a cool, but 38+ year old poster. With that said, I'm going to go through my parts stash and see if I didn't pick up a stack of 25-30 of these posters when I bought the one in the tube years ago. When I find them I will post here first with instructions. (Probably next weekend.) Thanks, Tom
Tom that was sooo smart grabbing a handfull of these back in the day. I'mm up for one:TU: Too bad we cannot scan it put it on a disc and clean it up, add the red car and the Reynolds car to it and make our own poster
I'd love to have one to display in my garage to go with the different Buick flags I've got hanging in there.
