The owner says the this is a steel nose 72 GT 37 as opposed to the enduro-nose GT 37. Pontiac prohibited these from being ordered with buckets seats while allowing every engine, including the 455.
My sister had a 72 lemans 350-2 and that car would stomp on moms 72 skylark custom 350-4. Was surprisingly fast.
Yes-that is a nice car! When we lived in Michigan a neighbor gal took delivery of one this color with the plastic nose and a 350 engine. We had a '71 LeMans 350 bronze/tan/brown vinyl top=sharp and was a very good car for us until the winters and salt ate it.
The GT-37 was only available in 1970-71. Technically, it was a GT option on the Tempest (1970) and T-37 (1971). In 72, the tempest and t-37 were no more but the GT option was still available on the Lemans and was just the GT, not GT-37. Also, in 72 only, you could order the endura GTO front end with the GT option, unlike 70-71. I actually like the non-endura cars better. I also think the blue cloth interior in this car is cool. Very nice GT.
I've been looking for information on a 72 GT37 and can find nothing. Lots listed for 70 and 71 even found a referral to 71 1/2. I'm confused. Jim are you sure it's a 72? Tom Just reread post and it's listed as a GT. Sorry Jim.
I am trying to get a buddy to buy this car. He had a GT-37 in high school and has been looking for one. I showed him this but I think he likes the endro nose and buckets. Told him this is the buy. Never be able to fix one up for that money.
My friend who is the owner says, technically, you are correct. These were rubber floor mat cars with no carpet even unless optioned up. Some options, like buckets, Pontiac would not allow to be purchased. I am told that a sale is pending.
This is a really cool car. I've been to well over a 100 car shows/ swap meets and I've never seen one of these before. I love the color.
