There is a great track down here that runs year round however I really doubt the northern guys would be up for an extra 8 hour drive. http://www.goracesgmp.com/home.htm
I booked my room at Drury this past Monday! Oh, I will be bringing a few parts to sell- some 4 speed, some NOS, etc, to move the resto of our 70 GS 4 speed ragtop along!!!
Buicks at Bristol was alot of fun,..but that track is Big $$$ but there are plenty of others in the TN area that would be really centrally located
But it would not be Beech Bend and Bowling Green.....lots of history would be diminished with a move. Everyone go next year and make it one of the BEST GS Nationals EVER !!!! Peace WildBill
Thirty five THOUSAND at Beech Bend....i cannot believe that...that's Half the population of Bowling Green . Peace WildBill
I'm glad to see the event back in May but the weather here in BG can be a crapshoot year-round. I've got my fingers crossed though!
Damn, also is right in the middle of my yearly lucrative onion haul. Might be tough to get them both done. But I'll give er hell.
The Holley NHRA Hot Rod Reunion brings a similar number of people to Beech Bend each year, during the month of June.
yeah, and it cost me $20 to go look around for 1 day (totally worth it btw). Many people attend all three days. Do the math $$$$$$ and then keep in mind that’s just the gate money. Then there are long lines for food and T-shirts that are also making a killin’. They just about need an armored car to come pick up the money, not kidding.
Just maybe 35,000 over 3-4 days.....who has an article that quotes these numbers? The river side of the track will only hold so many racers and their gear...even if they are out in the grass all the way to the end of the strip. I know a little about population and traffic flow...that two lane road to get in and out of Beech Bend has a limit to how many get in and out of there each day...unless they disable the light at the bridge.....but i doubt that.... Dang...i would probably really hate to live along that road on those weekends..... Peace WildBill
Trust me Bill, those numbers are not exaggerated. Beech Bend is so packed you don't recognize it, compared to "our" event. Seems like a different track. At the Hot Rod reunion, manufactures midway more then fills the circle track, show cars fill the field out to the gate/ticket booth & racers fill out to the woods in every direction & its packed, nobody spreads out to take 2-spaces. Trailers are only far apart enough to open the side doors. I waited in a bumper to bumper line that started well out past the train tracks(think farther out the "Uncle Sams") that was solid to the ticket booth at the track. Here's a picture I found online from 2008 & its MUCH larger now..........
Guys, this has been hashed over for years & the answer is always the same. Centrally located in the U.S. is NOT centrally located for the GS club members! The majority of members is located in the eastern & specifically north eastern part of the country. Bowling Green was picked as a "centrally located location for club members". The nationals especially this the 40th anniversary needs to be where its always been(except '99) in Bowling Green at Beech Bend. You have over 6-months to make plans, if you can't make it there are some other Buick events you can support, "Buick Bash @ the Quake" in Ohio, Buick vs. Ford in Oklahoma, Great Plains Buick challange in Nebraska, I believe there is talk of a fall event in North Carolina, I'm sure there's others as well as several "chapter" events that would appreciate the support. And nobody is stopping you from hosting your own event in your part of the country, however 2-3 larger events have a better chance of surviving the a dozen small events........
There was a hoity-toity lawyer that wanted to block the use of the road for that very reason. He lost and subsequently sold his house to Beech Bend, moved to a different area. https://www.bgdailynews.com/news/jones-sued-again/article_77ce66dd-e2be-56bb-bb68-8f4b34a01ff7.html https://www.bgdailynews.com/news/ba...cle_b0c138c6-37f4-5aea-b1c1-4c4a4493a90e.html
