Dave Kleiner is looking for a 3-speed Hurst Floor Shifter for a 70-72 GS/Skylark - in particular the linkage rods. Dave has been a huge help to us 4-speed guys on the board, it would be great to help him out!

Exactly what trans did that car have? Top-Loader, Muncie, or B-W?

Does anyone have the proper Part #'s for 70 GS 455 / Stage 1 Hurst 4 speed chrome shifter arm, shifter and rods?
Does anyone have any pics they can post?
    Thanks Rich

    3 different numbers?

Hi Rich. .. I'll try to help ya out here. I know there were 3 different P/N's for Buick Hurst shifters. . . I believe 68-69 had its own number. . 70-72 had two different numbers. . .BENCH seat or BUCKET seat cars. I have been looking thru my notes to try to locate those numbers. . .but can't as of this reply. Someone more knowledgable than I, on this forum, :TU: (Dave K perhaps?) may have thier hands on the correct id numbers. .So, is your car Buckets? or Bench? :Do No: Makes a difference. Wheelz, Tampa Bay

I have a top-loader 3-speed with Hurst shifter complete as it came out of a 68 GS350. Would that be the same parts?

Adam.. that shifter would have had the back up light switch mounted someware on the trans..... 69 and up had the back up switch mounted on the column....I'd be interested in the chrome handle or maybe the whole setup If sunbuick can't use it.....

    let me know Mark...

    Thank you for response.
I am particularly interested in Bench seat 4 speed shifter part #'s for all pieces but I would like part #'s for bucket seat and 4 speed consolette shifter part #'s if they are different as well.
    Thanks

Per the parts books GM# 1385629 = 68-72 3 speed lever = 68-72 4 speed lever with no distinction for bench or bucket seats.

However, the only number on the shifter is on the butt and it is the Hurst 4 digit number. The GM number does not appear on any levers that I have seen. My recollection is that the Hurst number that is engraved on the butt is 5335. Perhaps someone can verify their 3 speed lever also has that Hurst number.

    Thank you for your input.
I could not imagine Buick made different shifter handles for bench/bucket seat cars

Mark, I want to keep the trans and shifter together, as the trans isn't good for much without a shifter...But it's good to know that they were the same 68-72. Yes, it had the funky back-up light switch on the trans. I think I still have it someplace, but believe the switch itself is broken.

Now realize this parts book info is subject to be superceded by something in the assembly manuals. I do not see any disagreement in the 70 manual at 7-8.1 and 7-9.1. I am sure all know than the shifter mechanism itself and the rods are different between the 3 speed and 4 speed.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Here is what Dennis Wheeler says:

These are Factory Original Hurst BUICK shifters:
The shifter on left is a 70-72 GS 4 speed BENCH SEAT shifter. . the shifter in the middle is a 70-72 GS 4 speed BUCKET SEAT WITH CONSOLE shifter. .and the one on the right is a factory 1970 "3 speed Hurst shifter" You'll note that ALL three handles are different. The "Bench Seat Shifter" has a slight bend forwards, before going up to the "curve. The middle shifter is straighter. (Only the middle handle has a ledgible number "5335".) The 3 speed shifter handle is different from the others as well. I wish I could supply ya'll with actual part numbers. . . I did my best to clean the handles off but, the numbers are just not ledgible. HTH. Any Questions? Wheelz, Tampa Bay
