    George even the 70 Assembly manual specifies the identical GM part number for the 4 speed lever and the 3 speed lever. But like a said above the only part number on a shifter is the Hurst number which I know for a 4 speed is 5335 because I have one.

    This leaves several choices including:

    The factory installed levers for which there is no documentation;

    There is factory paper work that we have not located;

    The 70 assembly manual quoted above is incorrect; or

    Someone changed the levers in the units pictured so that they are no longer the originals.

    This development raises some interesting questions. If someone has a factory unit lever in a bench seat car and it fits and it bears 5335 that would be interesting info. If it is not 5335 then what is the number?

    Jim,
    I think the big problem is people do not take into consideration when the cars were built and who built them.
    I have been a member of the Corvette crowd for 23+ years. Was a huge discussion on why/how/could some 67 small block cars get big block hoods. Was later determined, plant had too many 67 427 hoods, stinger style, and employees were told "use em up"
    So, if "Joe Assembly Worker" was told use a manual shifter, I would seriously doubt he checked each one before installing it since they looked very similar. :TU:

    You do not know what you do not kow for sure. Wheelz samples, which have to be taken seroiusly, if correct, would mean that both the parts books and the assembly manual are incorrect.( Or it could mean that muliple lever shapes carrried the same part number.) If we can get a few more samples of the number on the butt of bench seat and 3 speed levers then we should be good to go with an answer.

    I went through 1970 Buick Assembly manual last night and it unfortunately does not list part # 's for shifters /shifter arms or linkage although does show good diagram.
    So if somone has this info please post it
    Thanks
