I know it's hard to read but it has 377FT.lbs torque and 369.8 horsepower at 5650 rpm's Scotty said I would have no problem occasionnally running it to 6000RPM's:TU:
I'll try,--Started out as a 1970 350 2 barrel, single exhaust,[the smallest horsepower-wise for 1970.] Block was cleaned up and 10 to 1 forged pistons installed, heads were pocket ported and 3 angle valve job and 350 stage 1 valves from TA,old SP 1 cam 232 245 dur.490 488 lift, crank was 10 over and polished, oil holes camfered, new ARP rod bolts, resized, ARP head bolts,Stage 1 350 fuel pump,Hooker Super-Competition 1 5/8 headers Jet-Hot coated,TA 350 Stage 1 intake and New 800cfm Q-jet from Poston, with a 1 inch spacer Stinger S-4 Ignition including dist.Complete balanced Assembly That's the basisic's of the motor. I re-located the battery to the trunk using ALL of the necessary parts from MAD ent.out of California [who I highly reccomend]. I have the GSCA's 3" exhaust with an H-pipe and Walker super turbo mufflers,350 transmission with a shift kit and 2800 stall converter,a 12 bolt posi with 373 gears and an homemade cold ram-air induction systems thru the headlights. The car is very innocent looking with 14" Buick Rally wheels and a Burnished Saddle color.
350 ? OK, these 350's do run, but why don't we see any small blocks in the FAST/PS type of drag classes that run? I would like to run my car in this class but was wondering how much I could expect ? The car is a 69 GS 350 with 4speed and a 3.42 posi. :TU:
Re: 350 ? I had FAST in mind when I put my engine together. However, the inability to stroke these engines relative to chevies or mopars makes them dead in the water. Someone correct me if I'm wrongo No:
David, She runs fine on 93 0ctane,Idles at 750RPM's in gear,Very streetable,I would drive this car Anywhere
Stroke OK, help me out why can't we stroke the 350? But why do we need to? Could we get 400HP out of it anyway? that would be a great ride even if we are not the fastest!:beer
Re: Stroke The Buick 350" already has a 3.85" stroke...that's more than most other small blocks will ever see. The big 'issue' is the rod to cam clearance - it's real tight already!!:Smarty: Even an aftermarket rod would have some potential clearance problems to be addressed....and that's with the stock stroke. The BORE of the Buick 350" is the one thing I wish was larger!! Of course, if you look at what the GN/TR guys are able to accomplish with that same 3.80" bore in the V6 - all hope isn't lost!!!:TU: Now we just need some equally excellent alum. V8 heads for the 350"!! Word is...2004 will be our year!!!:TU: :beer :bglasses:
Just back from the dyno I just got from back from Owensboro. I am very satisified with what Mike and Fred did for me. Peak HP was 364 and peak torque was an eyelash short of 400 lbs. This was done with factory manifolds, carb, intake and distributor. This motor should be very happy on the street, with a nice idle. I can run the power brakes, AC and still have fun. I am looking forard to spring when I can detail the engine compartment and drop in the new bullet. Now I've been thinking about a 200R4 and maybe 390 gears. Now to find a new home to work on this stuff......................
izjane, you should be the 350 guru for this section. anybody that can make the 350's fly deserves the title. encore, encore!!! btw, are you going to the n/e gs/gn xmas party jan 10th? john
Re: Just back from the dyno can we get more detail? cam , crank specs, bore, ur recipe. how many time did u run it? what kind of adj did u make?
"LITTLE BIG BLOCK" Back in the early '90's, I sold my 4100 lb 1973 Century Gran Sport to a guy from Ohio named Roger Reed. He lightened the car 400 lbs, built a mean Buick 350, made 480 hp, 420 ft/lbs torque, ran 11.5s in the 1/4 until the engine spun a bearing. Does anyone know an older gentleman named Sonny Seal, also from Ohio? Runs a mean Buick 350 in a yellow '69 GS named Tweety, has always been a strong runner, had a wild induction system last time I saw the car, believe it ran low elevens. The Buick 350 is a "little big block" with its long stroke, wide size and long intake runners. In stock form, would have made a better truck engine than any other small block, gobs of torque from a pretty lightweight (450 lbs) package. I have a smogger 350 Buick engine in my 1979 Land Yacht Park Avenue with 2.41 gears, it's peppier than my lighter 1978 Riviera 403 Oldsmobile with the same gears!
Re: Re: Just back from the dyno The cam specs are: Adv. Duration of 288 w/ 112 lobe center Duration @ .050 is 231 intake and exhaust 501 lift The block was bored .30 over. I used Speed Pro forged slugs. Final compression is around 9.9:1. The cylinder heads are ported with oversize Chevy valves and dual springs. I don't have flow #'s handy but they are forthcoming. I'll post them once I have them in front of me. The intake is untouched and is topped with a John O 750 Q-Jet carb. I will post the final rods/jet combo shorlty. A Dave Ray points to HEI converted distributor is used w/ no ignition box. The manifolds have been bridgeported and mated to a 2.25 pipes. Nothing to fancy. Mike made about 12 pulls, 9 complete and 3 half pulls. Because the cam was broken in before I got there, aall I have to do is drop it in and go (like hell:Brow: ) If I decide to go with a 200R4, I may opt for 4:11 gears. The little Apollo should scare a few Z-28'so No:
Real Buick Power !!!!!!!!!! +350HP no No2 = nice numbers!:beer btw. Has any one seen a pre-release picture of them 350 alu. heads?:bglasses: Im so curious if they got some added quench/squish area in the chamber?o No: Lars
