Thanks to Randy for sending us his shift hump. We have come to the conclusion that the 64-69 Cutlass hump that is already made is very close to the Skylark and would only need some minor trimming of the hole to work on a Skylark. I attached pictures and you can see that for the most part it is exactly the same except for the hole size. We will add these to our catalog as a shift hump needing minor trimming. We have these in stock and the price is $49.

    Close but no cigar

No offense Shane, but thats not going to cut it- no pun intended  . The problem with trimming it is that your going to lose the nice rolled edge that the machine stamping it makes. Why not just use the Chevelle one? Its just as incorrect as the Olds

    rolled edge

The rolled edge is so nominal, that it isn't worth the tooling costs. The rolled edge isn't as pronounced as that of the Cutlass, you can see that in the pictures.

Thanks, Shane for bringing this to our attention. As a member of this Buick community we have to be innovative in the modification of parts. Since we do not have a huge aftermarket source of sheet metal we tend to patch what we have. I applaude you for your efforts to help the buick community and I hope you continue to do so. I will be buying one of these trans humps very soon so that I may repair the floor of my 70 GS 455 4spd. Shane thanks again for The Parts Place and your effort.... :TU:

FYI... My Sister worked there when she lived in Chicago... Can I get a discount still lol (Joke)

Yes, but I'll know its not there. Many of us have been using the Chevelle hump. The hole is much closer in shape and size to the Buick one. I'm sure Randy will find someone else willing to repro it for us

The Chevelle one is extremely different; the size and the hole aren't even close. Attached are pictures showing the Cutlass and the Chevelle shift hump.

I was referring to the non console 66-67 hump that other board members are using in leu of the correct part.

I beleive the Chevelle hump that was referenced is the 64-67 non console type. (sorry I didnt see this was already corrected)

It looks very similar to the Cutlass one you are showing.

Shawn i greatly appreciate your involvment with this, as it is a hot topic here at v8buick in the U-shift-em section.

Hello Shane, I think you are correct they are very similar.. Buick guys you have to remember something.. Shane has put alot of money out there for tooling these humps and all the other parts (The Parts Place) has repo,ed for us.. Also these are very close and if they clear the shifter, thats all you need.. On something like this unless you are going for points judging, this will work perfectly.. My only suggestion is to make a paper template to send along with the repo so you can cut it if you want to. But that is up to you.. I can also supply them if people want..What is the part number in your catalog? I want one.. Thankyou for all your help Shane!! Randy

    Hey guys,

I'm kinda confused with this 70-72 4 speed shift-hump-ring-thing. I have converted my 71 GS to a 4 speed car and borrowed an original 4 speed template from Dave Kleinert of GS Enterprises and cut out the hole accordingly. After reading this log it appears I need the hump ring to finish the hole off (??) I have retained the original bench seat and will not use any kind of consolette. DO I still need to install one?? The body shop just finished painting the underside of my car and positioned the body on the frame this past Friday. If I need this 4 speed "hump" should I get it? What's the benifit for installing it, better carpet fit? Dave made no mention of this.

Hello Mike, The four speed hump was used on all four speed buick cars from the factory..Buick used two diferent shifter boots..One for a non console car and two for a console car..They used the large one to connect to the shifter HUMP, and one on the console..This reduced tranny noise.. If you don't use and console the hump on the floor gives you the correct look and fit of your shifter boot and ring..Your best bet would be to buy a Chassis Service manual or a 1971 Assembly manual. They have all the pictures in there you need..Does anyone have a complete picture of one of these? That would help Mike out.. Thankyou Randy

Ok what about us consolette guys , What do we use? Who makes the boots ? I am looking at that olds hump looks like minimal work to me .

John Is there anyone who repops the oldsmobile 64-69 hump?? You still can use this hump and put the ring and boot right over the top of it. It doesnt matter what the shape of hole is just the shape of the boot ring. Drill your holes and put on the ring and boot on.. The console has its own boot.. I have no Idea who reproduces the boot for the console.. I would like one though if anyone has any Ideas.. Thankyou Randy

    Mike,

You do not need a 4 speed "hump". This photo is of a 1970 Skylark automatic transmission car, that I converted to a 4-speed without using a floor hump. The carpet is for Auto car. As you can see the boot fits fine without a hump.
