Looks great, looks better than when it left the factory by far with that base/clear finish.
It would kill me to paint the stripes over it but that was part of the cars history.
Your making us Step Children proud!

    Mike,
Yeah Nick asked if I wanted the stripes under the clear, but I said no.

I really like that clean look on a driver, and that is what we are doing on Beth's Chevelle, but I wanted this one to look as correct as we could.
Nick is going to Paint the stripes on and then a friend of his is going to put the pin stripes on just like the factory did.

During my teen years my Mom once told me she didn't care what car I brought home as long as it was Green or it had Stripes. I haven't let her down yet.

Gulfstream looks closer to Turquoise Mist on the swatch. At least before clear.

That body is all due to Nick's labor and knowledge. I just get to sit back and watch like everyone else.

Hey Duane, what's the significance of these pulleys?

They are 68-70 non-AC 400/455 pulleys, and are very hard to find. (At least they were for me.) If you had a Stage 1 the motor came with AC pulleys regardless of whether it had AC or not.......so the only way you can find these pulleys is from a Non-AC Non Stage 1 big block car.

I didn't want to put the AC style (not correct) pulleys on the car. I have seen this done too many times at car shows.
I mean we are using a correct original radiator, with the correct original SJ tag, original trans cooler screws/plugs, original overflow hose and clip, etc. so I didn't want to do incorrect pulleys. Supposedly the correct style belts (non-cogged) will also be coming soon. I am still looking for the right rad hoses, but we will see what I can find. As long as the upper hose goes thru the hook I will be OK with that. I don't have to worry about it going around the GS air cleaner because it will not be there.

I wanted it to look as correct and "Naked" as it came. Just a pet peeve of mine. (Actually 1 of many.)

Wow thanks for the info. I guess I probably have those pulleys on my original 400 motor in the basement. Who knew they were hard to come by? Regarding the upper hose, do you need a part#? I have the correct upper hose on my car I think I ordered thru NAPA unless you are looking for date coded stuff.

    Ken,
In the 70-72 world, which is where I usually frequent, those pulleys are hard to find. A lot of the Big Block cars in those years had AC.

If you can get me that hose number it would be great. I found a couple of BB Buick upper hoses in my Basement. I may even have the one I need. I have been scouring my Basement for parts since this project started and have found all kinds of needed pieces, but the pickings are starting to get thin. Once this car is done there may be quite a few hard to find pieces going up for sale. Including some rare GSX only parts.

At this time, with the schedule as it is, I am not looking for date codes, just the best pieces I can find.

We have 4 weeks left from today to get it done. What do you think, do-able?

68-70 B.B. upper hose is the same . Don’t fit the hook “ great “ but no other options . Unless you’re DJ , and find an nos one .

What is the correct GM part number for the upper hose? I "may" have one but I would have to dig.
Is it the same hose as the '68 GS400?

    Don,
I have a never used Car Quest 20980. Do you think that's the same?

    Mike,
I think the originals were 69 and 70 GS only, so it would fit in the hook and miss the GS air cleaner.

    Adam,
I thought we were already in "Thrash Time". Are you saying we need to hit 3rd gear????

Real thrash time is when you're screwing wheel opening moldings to the car as it rolls into the trailer to go to the event. :D
