What plant is this car from Duane ?
The Leeds cars I have / Had , have Liberal overspray on the bottom like a dodge .
Reminds me the first GSX ‘s that Kleiner did and painted the whole bottom yellow ...

The car is from Oshawa Canada. I just added a "before" pic of the dash in the above post, and it shows the Body Tag.

Nick and I have already noticed some changes from the 69 cars we are used to seeing, like coming stock with a 12 bolt rear.

    For A-bodies,
I don't know what the "Home Plant" would have been for the Philadelphia area in 1969. Maybe it was Oshawa.

For the 70 Model Year, our home plant was Framingham Massachusetts, so any car except for special cars like a Stage 1, GSX, or convertible would have been from there. Any 70 Stage 1, GSX, or convertible ordered new, would have been "imported" into our area from Flint.

For 1966 our home plant was Baltimore for the small cars. (A-Bodies)

Was Framingham building small cars in 69? Anyone know?

Some of that info is not correct. My car was built in Oshawa in Sept of 1968.

I don't know if GM of Canada has info for all cars, but I have all the info for mine and know exactly how it was originally optioned and the dealer ship it went to.

I want to thank David Walker for the belts and hoses for my car. If you haven't tried to find a non-cogged belt for a resto then you have no idea how nice it was to get these.
    Thanks again.

    For those that care.
I keep forgetting which style WOM screws go where so I made up a "cheat sheet".

    Edit;
This Cheat sheet is for the 70-72 cars only, the 69's used different WOM screws. I will post that later.

It's hard to see, but the front screws have a wider "lip" then the rears.
    Hope this helps.

Been working on sub-assemblies for a while so I figured I'd post a few up here. Today I detailed the steering box and disassembled the steering column, striped the paint off and re-assembled it so Nick could paint it next week. The emergency brake cables are GMAD originals (Flint cables are different) that were cleaned up and the other parts, except the horns, are all original to the car.

The window washer pump and heater core are new.

Duane, the parts look good...I always hate to input because I assume you know more than I do. A few comments...the upper part of the steering column, I think that should be black. The PS pump brackets I think should be grey phosphate. Don (DL) does those, he may know better. I'm not real familiar with the step kids. Could be wrong on either of those things. You know how it is, differing divisions, plants, etc. Finally, I think Ames is the best place to get the foil wiper motor sticker(s). They used to have a lot of different dates and they were cheap, compared to other places that only carried 1 date.

Duane, Is that the correct wiper motor? Shouldn't it be the longer one? The car looks so sweet. September what is the unveiling?

    Frank,
That lower steering column assembly is the one that came off the car and is painted exactly like it was from the factory. The shaft was black, the "grease cup" was bright steel and the upper bracket & bolt going thru it were black with a bright metal nut. (Don't know what more to say about that.) The P. Steering brackets looked like they were black phosphate coated, but I painted them black. I have no time to send anything out right now, and am more concerned about getting the car done and protecting the parts. I do have 2 of the foil wiper motor stickers from Ames, but have not put any on yet and will not do so until I know the motor works. The copper ground strap on the motor was broken so we could not test it before removal/detailing. If it doesn't work I have a few spares laying around here somewhere.

    Mike,
I don't know about a longer wiper motor, but this is the one off the car, so...................I imagine it is correct.
We are hoping to get the car to Cecil on the 15th, regardless of whether it is 100% completed or not.

Ok, on to some of today's work.
What do you do when you have 3 Vintage Sun Gauges and only have 1 mounting bracket, easy you start making parts. The original bracket is silver and the 2 "new" ones are blue. They look a bit crazy because they have to fit around the light sockets. I started out with a piece of flat steel from an air compressor belt shield and had at it. Now I feel like I am starting to build watches.

I have everything for the gauges except for 1 light socket. If anyone has an extra I could use it.

    Jason,
That's good to know. Are they available new?

Today I got to see the fenders and hood. The shell was getting the Vinyl top and Headliner installed today and will be back at the shop tomorrow, so I will see it then.

We were working on cleaning/painting some interior trim pieces. I took some pics of the fenders and original paint inside the trunk lid. It's hard to see in the pics with the light reflecting off the fender, but the color is a very good match. I also took a pic of a headrest with the fenders.

While looking at the seats I told Nick they were the first 69 GS/Custom seat covers I ever made. We used Jimmy's seats for the patterns, and to make the heat sealing dies. Then I installed them on the frames to check the fit of the covers. After this I made up a set of Pearl White front bucket seats and took them to the 88 GS Nationals along with a couple sets of 70 Black front buckets. That was the first year I ever went to the Nats and the guys were going crazy because it was the first time they had ever seen Reproduction Buick seat covers for sale. While telling Nick all this we realized I had made these seats 30 years ago.

I also took some pics of the tags in the seat backs, and one of Nick "at work".

    More pics tomorrow.

Maybe, but I used the one with the metal tangs on my Sun gauges so I know that socket works.
