    Duane,
What gears will you be running?

Kewl. That 290-08H is one of my favorite off the shelf grinds and is a huge cam that really has so much more if head work is done. For heads that have had no work with that cam are good numbers.

    Chris,
The car came originally with a Chevy 12 bolt with 355 gears, and that's what we have. It's got a brand new posi unit in the pumpkin.
I don't know if that is what we will be staying with, but we'll see how she is when it's all together.

I also have an un-restored 373 Chevy 12 Bolt posi laying around. I could always throw that in later to see how it is, but I believe the rear in the car is the original one, so we will see.

    Great numbers Duane!!
That car should be a blast to drive,
Especially with that torque level and a 4 speed!

    Again.....Congrats

There will not be enough difference going from a 3.55 to 3.73 to make it worth your time, trouble, or expense.
If it had a 2.93 or 3.08, I would say yes, but the 3.55 is about a perfect all around multi purpose ratio, much like Buicks favorite 3.42.
Mid 3 series gears and Buick torque work well together.
    Nice car, great numbers, enjoy!!

    Yeah,
I was hoping the 3.55 would work.
I had a 3.42 posi in a 71 Blue GSX look-a-like (before I bought the real car), and a 3.64 in a 70 Stage 1 4-speed. I got to ride in the 3.64 car just as it was sold. It was my first and only ride in that car and it was fun. The guy drove it outside the entrance from Beach Bend and lit it up. I purposely never drove that car as I wanted an "X" and knew if I drove it I would not want to sell it.

I used the 71 "X" look-a-like as my everyday driver for a few years. It originally had a highway gear until I grenaded it. ( When we opened it up the fluid looked like silver toothpaste.):D I can still remember how it came alive with that 342 posi.

    Duane,

That '70 was the double blue one with the base model interior, correct?

Yes, at one time I had 2 70 Stage 1 4-speeds and actually another 70 Stage 1 Automatic. Both 4-speed cars were Diplomat blue, the auto was Bamboo Cream.

I worked on the car a little Saturday and got all the clips installed that hold the trims rings on the Hurst Wheels. That took 2 1/2 hours, what a pain.

Gene Hill came over with his buddy Doctor Dan to see the car and we talked for a while. He got to see where some of his parts ended up. He was a happy man.

Waiting on some parts to arrive, and then we can continue.

Just got in some very nice parts yesterday. Terry Felt sent me an NOS rear back-up light lens and a pair of re-chromed rear quarter panel tail piece moldings. I didn't even know the back up light lens came with a gasket until I talked to Terry.

    Thanks again for the parts.

Those gaskets tend to "dry out" and shrink or become "hard" like body seam sealer. The reproduction back up light is a poorly made piece..

Glad Terry hooked you up with rechromed end pieces!!

Got to clean up another part for the car. Nick said I needed a gas cap and the only one I had was a little crusty, so I cleaned it up. Here are the before and after shots.
    Enjoy.

I blasted the part with glass bead and then painted it an argent silver. Originally it had a galvanized coating on the body, and when it oxidized it made the part look horrible. That is what you are seeing in the first pic. The part itself was in decent shape. Once I saw the "markings" on the ears I had to take a pic of them.

If I wanted to get a little crazy I could have painted the ears Argent, and the" body" with Cold Galvanizing. That would have made the "body" a little brighter and would look very close to the way it was, but this is one of those parts that does not need to be perfect. It would never be seen during Judging, so if it's protected by paint, and it looks close to the original colors, then that is all you need to do.

I would rather use/recycle/refinish an original part (where possible) then buy a new one. How can you compete against original parts?

I think it took an entire 10 minutes of my time to do this.

Does the 'S' on the ear mean it was originally made by Stant?
Those zinc 'copy cad' plating kits from Caswell work nicely on hardware and small parts like this.

    I know that's the correct cap for a 69 442.
