    Here's a "socail anchor"
You can't see the mailbox scoops on the hood and you can't buy this car for love or money.....

Story goes........a Colored fellow and his (wife/girlfriend?) got hired on at one of the local(GM/Chrysler?) plants and they went out and bought his and hers Hurts/Olds.
They were in operation for years then ended up sitting in a side yard in one of the seedier sections of town in the mid 80's.Constant offers to sell have been turned down. One car was stolen right out of the yard so now the other sits up next to the house buried in mud to it's floorboards.

Another guy 1/2 a mile from me......57 Bel-Air 2 door hdtp been rotting away in his back yard for the last 25 years......same deal:confused:

Yeah, i agree "Social Anchors"

There could be another reason for this phenomenon- depression.

He may have a point about this thread. Ok Mike and Jim, we need a new section added to the V8 board. It will be called "Soap Opera".

You are right on one thing, my driver license was aquired well into your old age.:3gears: But one thing I disagree with is you saying these guys who have offered to buy these cars have small pocket books.. Does that make any sense at all if you read what Tom has been saying since the start of the thread??? That $2,500 is not the price Tom put on the cars, but the price he was offered the cars at. From what Tom is saying I have a hard time not believing the guy, he just sounds to honest about the whole ordeal and he knows way to much about the cars and the guys family members. And who the hell puts this many cars on Ebay, and offers other NOS parts with them along with saying if the bid goes high enough I will put in two other mint cars. BS..... The reserve is way to low for all that........

I'll throw another log on the fire here (just nuked a bag of popcorn  ). I'm drooling over this, but I'm asking questions because I don't know, not making statements I'm presenting as truth. If my numbers are way out of whack, please correct me to help me understand.

I just don't see this as a good retirement plan or a chance to put the kids through college for "free".

It's a gold mine, but the gold is still in the ground, right? Its gonna take a lot of work to get it out.
Currently the high bid is about $68,000, or $17k per car, plus you get a bunch of good rare, desirable parts to use for restoration. What would it cost to restore them to top sales dollar condition? If you figure a minimum of $50k for each resto, you're looking at about $67k cost in each car.

What would these cars be worth in #1 concourse restored condition? About $100k each or so? How long are you tying up your money in this investment, figure what, 2-3 years to restore them and bring them to market? Plus a BUNCH OF WORK tracking down all the details. What is the muscle car market going to be like then? (your risk).

At 2yrs.your APR is 22%/yr. At 3yrs your APR is 14%/yr. You can get comparable returns with many no load mutual funds (there's risk here too), without ANY of the work.

If you're in it for the hobby, that's something I understand, but buying these cars to make a buck doesn't make any sense to me. It just doesn't seem like a good plan to finance your addiction. Enlighten me and flame away. :beer

GSXSVT.....it was never about the money...and still isnt, whether its $2.5K, $25K, or $250K. If the owner has had these for 20 years then he does have some idea of the value, no? And has most likely had many offers of various sizes? Then why not sell to someone like yourself with the reach to make his dreams come true?

Topcat is correct Social Anchor. :)

I love a good drama! :TU:

Judging by the look of these cars $50,000 to restore is probably really conservative. Granted these cars, if indeed they are the real deal, would be great to have back on the road and in the Buick community but serious consideration should be taken to their massive disrepair. I know I wouldn't want to take on a series of 4 restorations of that magnitude on the chance that prices will continue to grow for them. Still there is something entertaining in watching the auction unfold. Good luck to those brave enough for the undertaking.

When I said "these cars" I meant this specific Ebay auction. I understand that you guys in the stratosphere are always step stoning to something better. Thats the way it works and its all good as far as I'm concerned.:TU: I think its really cool that that I can see these immaculately restored cars, but they are beyond my reach.

I would say about 125-175k depending on how anal retentive you get with the details and if the expensive parts are mostly there.

Between the initial purchase and resto costs, you might be able to break even if you sold right away. The only way your going to make money is to sit on it for a few years and let the market catch up

A $2000 car and a $65000 car are the same to me. Can't afford either one. Sure am enjoying watching this. Someones gonna get alot of good stuff, or tremendiously ripped off. I doubt theres an in between.

I would personally invite this seller back. He has something we all would love to have.
But the way the salty treatment has been, I doubt it. Both sides have been discussed and have their coin to their sides. But, my opinion is What are these junkyard jewels worth? Yes, I can drive eight hours and get the vin and verification hopefully with a phone call, but the price and my wife tells me stay home. There is 7 days or so left and we should invite (areed) back with positive and hard discussions what he has. These buick cars are loved by us and he has the time to prove there worth.

    Thanks, my two cents
