Without headers weren't the 454 LS6 and 396 L78 somewhat over rated and "clogged down". I heard the smallish bore of the 396's couldn't take advantage of the good L78/LS6 heads??
Now weren't the Vettes factory intake and exhaust manifold's really the best and a reason also that the 427/ 435 hp ran soooo good?
Was it Chevy and GM upper management that made sure the Corvette was to be top dog or the Corvette could fit better factory manifolds than what would fit in a Chevelle?

The 396/375 hp in Camaros are in the 9s in stock eliminator. I don’t think there are any current at least I know of 70 LS6 cars running. It’s gotta be tough w a rating of 450hp. For class racing.
Would love to see GMs best class of 70 all participating w the best tuners.
Thankfully Jason Line Is carrying the Buick torch for 1970 GS Stage 1 and on the cusp of 9s.
Would give to go to Jason Line Performance school, lol.

In 1982 I had the choice of spending my $1000 on a 70 SS396 Chevelle or 70 GS455, both automatics, completely stock solid original used cars. Test drives of both at the time showed the Buick to be a much nicer vehicle overall but the true selling point was the Buick would blow the doors off the Chevy (base 350hp 396). So, yea, same experience for me. I still have that GS but I sure wish I had an extra grand and Chevelle today as well....... :)
