What he said. And neither one is opposed to a customer putting in "sweat equity" on sub assemblies teardown reassembly at your own garage.
Here's an Idea Buy it, put it back together. Detail the engine compartment. Buff out the paint and drive it. They're only original once. That car doesn't look too bad to me - a little "patina" would be forgiven when you consider how cool and rare the car is. It will hold it's value just fine. If you go all out on a ground up professional resto you'll be scared to drive it. Whatever, don't let the car get away.
I bought a mostly original paint QQ car 16 years ago and often thought about restoring it but I did what John suggested in the previous post: "Buy it, put it back together. Detail the engine compartment. Buff out the paint and drive it." It is a 10 footer... but I enjoy driving and racing it every chance I get. I drive it almost daily in the summer and have a blast with it. To paraphrase those Mastercard ads... NOT spending big $$$ restoring a GSX and having fun driving it: "priceless". I'd buy it and enjoy it this summer! Paul
70GSX pics            I'm the proud owner of a 1970 GSX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :beer Got title in hand. Looks like it was one of the last ones made. June. Can't wait to bring her home! If weather is good, it'll be Sat.! Going to take more pictures of the new arrival. Like many have expressed, I would love to drive her a bit before I put her down for restoration. :3gears: Have some fear though of blowing it up or damage. That would upset me! Got to have some fun 1st :bglasses: I've owned some Buicks before, but never one like this. Will appreciate any info or help with the resto or other characteristics of the beast. Any contacts for N.O.S. parts would also be awsome. Thanks for the input too! :TU: :TU: :TU:
Congratulations on your purchase :beer Please consider registering your GSX with the GSX registry - www.buickgsx.net It's important to determine how many of these cars survive today. Thanks!
Congrats Excellent. I am happy to see another great car get a second chance at life. Enjoy your fabulous new car. Mark

congrats on the gsx, :ball: (my dream car for the last 25 years) :TU: i'm with the others,if you can polish it up ,detail it just drive it the way it is.i have a '72 gs clone that i put to much time and way too much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (just ask my wife) in and i,m afraid to drive it much.ijust bought a 68 real gs 400 that is decent but junky enough to drive and i enjoy it more because it's already pre-door dinged for me.it has been driven to work every day since i bought it a month ago.it was really funny several people wondered what happened th the "nice" one and that ed would never own a hunk of junk like that.if you can't drive it what good is it.a frind of mine has a gsx that is unrestored and he has fun all the time with it at the pure stock drags.its up to you ,do it for you. ed :3gears:
Well now that the GSX is safe in your garage please tell us all the details of how you found the car and did you get a good deal or did you have to pay market value? p
70 Gsx :3gears: Well; here's some more pictures. Hope I'm not boring you guys to death  with my excitement! A couple of interior and engine, dust, dirt, grime and all. She's a diamond in the rough. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX036.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX074.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX073.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX072.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX071.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX070.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX069.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX068.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX067.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX066.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX065.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX009.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX008.jpg Story behind it? About 5 years ago I drove by his house and saw a 72 cutlass in his drive. So I stopped to talk to him about it. It was his sons who was only about 12. He was going to fix it up for him and it was to his his when he turned 16. Anyway, I went into garage with him and saw the 70 GSX. Stepped on my jaw. Asked if he wanted to sell and he said "NO". He had just bought it. Over the years I have sold him some cutlass parts and every time I asked him if he was ready to sell yet. Answer was always no until about 3 weeks ago. He said he had been thinking about it because he wasn't getting the job done and could use some cash. I jumped on it! Good deal? I paid under $20,000. Not really sure that's a good deal, but I have been told by a friend who saw it, that that was a steal. Either way, I'm happy to finally get it. Hopeing to do a 90-95 point restoration. Got to scrape up funds though. May-be will put things back together and drive for a while!!!! :3gears: I am more than willing to except suggestions on restoration and parts! uzzled:
I'm no expert on GSX values but I think you did very well with that car. From the pics it looks like you could show the thing after some serious detailing. There must be more to it. What is actually wrong with the car. All I can see is the decklid won't close, door panels and grille are missing and the a/c hoses are off the compressor and were left open and a couple other minor issues under the hood. I'm sure you know this but for the sake of that 455 I'll say it anyway. Don't fire that thing up without flushing out the oil pan if it's been sitting over a year or two. I'd prime the oil pump with a drill too. Speaking of the 455, have you confirmed the serial number on the engine? You lucky bastard! ou:
70 Gsx Thanks for the tip on starting. I'll be sure to do that. What's wrong with car? It will take a little TLC to bring it to where I would feel comfortable to drive around for a while. Needs some exhaust work, check brakes, tranny, change oil, and other fluids. Grill is in trunk, valance re-installed, NOS tail lights, door panels. Interior has been re-apohlstered, seats, door panels, carpet. Trunk lid has been replaced with one from a GS. Latch needs to be reinstalled. Bumpers need re-chrome. Other than that, it"s ready to go. :3gears: I plan on completely restoreing it, but am a very motivated person so it will be hard to be patient. Oh, buy the way, there is one major thing wrong with it! uzzled: Look at picture! Blow it up. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/70SXW32/70GSX036.jpg Think that could be why I can't get trunk shut???
good luck and have fun. We all know you will. I'm speaking for myself and probably a few others.....I'm jealous p Keep posting the pics. Oh and the problem with the trunk.... ya might wanna dispose of that ASAP as I doubt even burnt rubber will cover the smell  well, at least not for long
70 Gsx I've talked to the second owner of the car tonight. He informed me that the car was originally purchased from a dealer in Saint Paul, Min.. The guys name was Pat something. Bought it when he got home from the service. Later he moved to Wisconsin, then sold it to the second owner. It's a real shot in the dark, but would anyone know who this Pat is??? o No: Second owner said he raced it a lot. Got in high 12's regular. :3gears: Still doing some research. It's been fun. Ran into Ed (defan238) by accident at Jefferson and he told me he tried to buy this car 1 1/2 years ago. Wasn't able to though. :af: Feel sorry for him, but I'm glad!
thanx for rubbing it in :ball: :af:  .always a day late and a dollar short.at east you got it cheaper than what i offered him. but i won't give up mine is out there some where.
