Mike, I agree with you 100%. That said, I couldn't afford to buy one done, so for now, I'll settle for my project car. I would rather say I have one, even as rough as mine is, that not have one at all. At least its sitting on a dry concrete garage floor as opposed to where it sat for the last 30+ years. I just wish it was a 4 speed.:3gears:

You know, the 09 BPG nats are having the GSx reunion. How about a 70 Stage 1 4 speed reunion at the '10 BPG Nats?

    John,

Are those aircraft landing lights mounted in the high beam positions?

O.K., back o the thread topic (sort of). How many of the '70 GS Stage 1 4-speeds that have been discussed in this thread (following the original subject car) have either power brakes or power steering? The white one has nothing, nada, zip.

That's what I was referring to with the "ultra-spartan" comment. I just have not seen many GS's with this low option content. If only that GS could talk ...

Personally, I'd rather have the comforts of A/C, PS, and PDB over a couple tenths - it is a Buick after all :beer

I was under the impression that all Stage 1 cars had power disc brakes. Learn something every day.

I think '70 was the last year for drums w/ a Stg 1 ... after that, the disc brakes were required when Stg 1 was ordered and discs were standard when the '73 redesign arrived, I think.

You're correct! Power disc brakes were required for the stage1 package (at extra cost) in 1971/1972. Starting in 1973 it was part of the A1 option.

Check out the order forms for the A1 option...

Hey, that's my point. Because GS's are Buicks, they are usually fairly well equipped. The vast majority of us are used to a certain level of appointments and options in our Buick Skylarks & GS's that include at a bare minimum pwr steering & pwr brakes ... so that this becomes the de facto "bare bones" level we are used to. This car doesn't even have those options. If one were to look at the production totals of '70 GS's produced without even pwr steering and power brakes, the total has to be a fraction of a percent. Pretty darn low. Seems to me the original owner probably ordered this white GS this way (what dealer would order NO pwr steering & NO pwr brakes ... possible: yes; probable: no) as an undiluted expression of Buick performance at the time the car was built in order to win races.

Added to that, what other manufacturer's 'top engine package' for this timeframe included the possibility of A/C (or PB, for that matter).

    Hi John,

Was that one for sale at the GS Nat's back around 99 or 00? Looks familiar.

    Best Regards,

    Eric

See, I always thought my Stage 1 was "bare bones" for a Buick!

No A/C, no automatic trans, drum brakes (although power), AM radio, no Power windows or door locks. Geez...I even have to move the seat manually! I guess I got spoiled from driving my power everything Rivieras for so long

Wasn't this one, I'd almost bet that until I moved to Indiana in '96 this car hadn't ever left Michigan & I've owned it since around '89. The ORIGINAL miles shows a little over 15,000, it has been a drag car since '73 & hasn't been registered since '75.

For the record, this one is loaded compared to some of these, Stg-1, 4-spd,short console,P/S&P/B(aluminum drum),AM radio w/Rr. speaker,H78-14 white wall tires,Rallye suspension, tinted windshield,Rr. defrost, floor mats, convenience(light)group, Instrument group, super sport wheels, this was also a company car. All this is as per the Sloan documentation. Also I purchased it from the original owners son, he had also told me that it was a "pep vehicle".

Wow, I didn't know this thread would turn into a nah ney nah ney nah nah thread:bla: JK

All kidding aside, there's a guy that lives here in town who has 2 70 Stage cars. one's a diplomat blue 4 speed, one's a black automatic. I've been bugging him for years to sell me one of em. He just won't budge. The shame is, both cars have been sitting outside for years. The 4 speed car had a couple of huge ground hog holes underneath. The automatic car was so rusty, the hood started to buckle when I tried to open it. And that was 15 years ago. If memory serves me right, both cars had the original motors. Damn shame.:ball:
