Pic 3 I think heat applied would soften the material, and striaghten teh bottom out. Up to you?

    Hey Jon,

I'm very interested in the grill...... I'm just concerned about the twist and If I could get it out... Could you put some heat to it and see if it will straighten up before I commit to buying it? I know it's a good deal, I just hate to spend the money if it's something I can't use.

I will try a littel bit, but I am not gonna spend much time on it. I have lots of sheet metal I am trying to prep for paint, and this is a project going on in the background. I am gonna put it in teh FL sun, covered in black, and set it on teh tail gate of my truck. Well see if that does anything, and then once its hot from the sun, I will apply heat from a torch, and well see how it goes. I dont blame you for being sceptical, like I sadi, tehy are test pieces to see where I am needing to pay more attention. I am surprised though that noone seems to want it to repait their busted up GS grill. It would be ideal for that. Lots of mesh etc..... I will keep trying.

This is looking very very promising Jon.
Keep up the good work. A few nonperfect pieces will eventually lead to the acceptable finished product.
    Keep on pluggin'!!!

    Color

Didn't you say you were making them from polyester resin? They make coloring agents that can be added to the resin. It would give you some sort of base color to work with. Just a thought. That's some impressive work you're doing.

Way to go Jon nice job!

You say you are having problems with the mold laying flat couldn't you build "V" shaped container to hold it in proportion? Just a thought but i'm not quite sure how your doing it since your there and i'm here.

    Food for thought.

Thanks yall. The v-shape box really wont work, cause its the inside of the mold that is getting off center. I have it in a box, supported by sand(bottom side of the mold is not level). I just have to get a template right that when I lay the mold in the sand, the template will force it into a shape, then I can pour the resin. I looked into teh color, and will probably use it after I get things right. Just dont want to spend mroe than I have to at this point. I am gonna heat up my barbecue grill, and cover the grill in foil, and see if that heat can make it bend without catching it on fire. :) Master of injenuity!!!

Hey, I told you: If you have a torch and welder we can make the Chevette rear fit your wife's golf! Not my fault you set the torch on the ground to get a beer and set your neighbor's tree and bushes on fire!:af:

Oh yes, that fender! Will get to it today! Sheesh, the GS on Ebay is up to $100,000+! I think the fender I have is at least worth $10,000 !:Dou:

If it still has the GS Stage1 emblems on it, then the price just doubled to $20,000:laugh:

Let me know if you will be at the yard on Sat.

If you have the fender, I can meet you at the yard. Oh, and it wasn't the torch that caught the house on fire, it was the molding clay you used to fix teh hole in the gas tank you redneck. Bailing wire is for fences, not exhaust hangers.

Ok, I was able to straighten out teh grill for you. If you want it even straighter, I just propped it up over the barbecue grill outside, and SLOWLY heated it up. Then I took it off and woudl press it between two pieces of wood. You could get the thing really straight if you wanted to. Either way, it has very littel bow in that one section. My wife has teh digital camera, so I will post a pic later. Let me know if you still want it. -Jon

    Jon,
Dont forget if Chris doesnt want it I do :Brow: . Like I said Jon I can see droping a grand on a grill just because the numbers are correct and the Skylark grill just isnt the same. I just want to make sure my grill studs will work or do I need to tap some? George thanks for all your helpfull info on rebuilding the BOP rearend. Its starting to look like a GS again. Almost can roll it out from my garage and start on Body and interior drivetrain and undercarage almost complete

I have built some areas for the suds to be set, but no tehy are not tapped. It is up to you to find the location of the studs. You may also find that you have to add soem material etc. Tehse grills are designed to get you started, more of a base. Tehy are close, but not perfect, but darn affordable for the poor people like me. :) On this test piece there are no center studs. Just get some Bondo liquid resin, and make some squares for the studs. Fiberglass is reall easy stuff to play with. Just get some clay, make teh mold, then mix your resin and fill it up. If it were me, I would build adjustable mounts for the studs so you could move the grill up and down if you get the studs in there wrong. Just a thought..... Like I said, this being a test grill, and not perfect, its $100.
