Not much to update...between work and Texas heat, it's slow going...still getting the whole thing in final primer, black epoxy primer everywhere.

Broke two exhaust manifold bolts off while trying to replace my gaskets. I was pretty bummed about that, but not after searching for info here. There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum about what to do about broken studs, so now I have a better plan to deal with them.

I make progress everyday I work on it, and I'm still excited about it, but I sure want to get past this stage of the project.

This is honestly the coolest project I've seen someone take one!
Good Job with it so far and good luck!

I have changed my mind on the color scheme for my wagon. It will still be Royal Blue Metallic, but it will have a white vinyl top, and a white vinyl interior. The seats will still be in the Limited style and pattern, but will be modified to be buckets instead of 60/40 split bench. The dash will be black, with a black Riviera center console, and the carpets and carpeted cargo floor will be black cut pile. White headliner, and white cargo side panels.

I plan to use the correct Levant grain unpadded top material, and the seats will hopefully be entirely in Madrid grain vinyl. I have never been a fan of the Elk grain vinyl used in combination with the Madrid, correct for a Limited vinyl interior.

This color scheme is not correct for either the Estate Wagon, or the Limited, but it is correct for the Riviera.

Since I am already playing with body styles and models, creating a model that never really existed, I might as well go all the way and "special order" this 1972 Buick exactly the way I want it.

    David :)

    Hey, Wixom61...
We haven't heard from this project in almost two weeks. Any news? I do like your color choices and think it will be very eye catching.

    Keep us up to date

    And... you do good work!!!

Today, I had some good luck with finding the vinyls I will use for my top and interior.

I went by a trim shop that has been around for at least three decades, and found the period-correct NOS off-white Levant-grain top vinyl, and off-white Madrid-grain interior vinyl. Both have a slight pearlescent sheen, and look beautiful.

Most sources for these vinyls are pretty proud of them price-wise, but I bought these for dang cheap! Yea! :TU:

Took a few pis of my Royal Blue Metallic DuPont color standard plate, and my new vinyls. The first pic is with a flash, and makes the color look a little brighter than it really is. The second pic is closer to the actual shade.

I thought it was about time I posted some new pics of my wagon.
It has been a long hot summer, and I hope it cools down soon! Progress has been very slow, but steady.

Every panel is now pretty darn perfect, and is coated in a final sealer coat. The floors are also sealed and the rear trunk is done in correct black and aqua splatter paint.

Today, I sanded and sealed the cargo flooring and fold-down rear seat. Those panels must weigh at least 250 pounds!

That is bad-a$$ as it sits. I would have a hard time putting paint on it and just cruise it as is. :TU:
