My wife and I took the yellow car in our pic here to a little place in the country for something to eat this lovely evening. I am careful to park the car where we can watch it. As usual it drew a crowd and I could see all kinds of people looking. Some stayed to see who came back to the car. When we approached a guy at least in his upper 50s asked if it was ours. Now I am figuring as usual he wants to buy it, but no he hit me with a new one. He started telling me "How long it had been since he had seen a camaro like ours". Now I'm thinking, "Perhaps all your life."
I only thought I had heard it allou: ou: I had this one on my GN The guy said yeah he had one that he bought brand new back in 89 but his had the turbo V8. And of course with the GS you know the usual nice chevelle, cutlass, lemans etc. etc.
I had an old lady come up to me in a parking lot and said "is that the new Model for Buick this year? I said no its a 1966.... yikes I guess she couldnt see or tell the difference..poor old lady...
When I drove my GSX look-a-like, I always heard "Nice GTO". Now that I drive the X-Camino, you wouldn't believe how many guys say their father had a car just like mine. Duane
You're killin me.... How did you not bust out laughing?   At least he didn't try to buy that "Camaro" by offering you $500..... CASH!ou:
Back when I had my '69 AMX, I had a guy tell me he used to have one just like it but his back seat was torn. Just in case you don't know, the '68-'70 AMX's are 2 seaters.
I never get the whole "Nice XXXXX" ... I usually hear "My dad had one of those when we were kids... well, a 68 with the 400" or "I had a 71 with a 350... man that thing scared some Chevy boys!" (Generally said most by Ford owners)... one of my friends grandfathers bought a new GS in 68 and 69 ... both 4speeds! Kept the 69 until 71 when he got a brand new Riv... kept Riviera's up until he died... but stopped buying new ones after the late 80's.
Yeah sure... Very few people have heard of a Buick Centurion. I didn't know about them until I bought one. I've had arguments with parts counter jockeys who insist that I own a Century. I had to take one guy out to the parking lot and show him. Buick made roughly 5,300 73 Centurion Convertibles, they all must've been sold in New England because everywhere someone remembers (fill in the relative) who had one just like it. The only thing worse is not getting noticed at all. "Oooh look at that Honda Camry, I knew 17 people who had one just like it!" Who cares?
Twice while I've been out in my GN: "That's a nice International, Buddy!" Gee, how did they know? Did the hay baler attachment give it away? -- Steve
Atleast he didnt call it a mustang, that seems to be the only word people know around here when it comes to old cars.. ive seen guys call camaro's mustangs, chevelles mustangs.. and just today i had pictures of the 87,70, and 71 and someone asked why i had so many mustangs:af: :blast: i just dont get people my age.. so ignorant! -Josh
i would suppose roughly 3/4 of the people in this country dont know a thing about cars at all, any kind. and you want them to know something about old cars, or more specifically, your old car.... uzzled: did you also know that all motorcycles are either harleys or "crotch rockets", unless you have that rare harley crotch rocket:beer
