Found a couple pictures of my old GSX. The little scrawny kid with the big head of hair is me. Just turned 18. That was the very day I bought it. It had some local racing history. One of the previous owner raced it at NY National in the early 70s. It had some racing scars. The WG's are in a pile in front of the car mounted on new Eagle GT's. Only stripes on the car were on the wing. That was my hottie girlfriend at the time posing next to it. It was my everyday driver at the time. Used to park it in the street at my parents house! The car is currently owned by a board member in Mass.
    I still miss it. :ball:

After I sold the GSX (dumbest thing I ever did), I bought the 442. 72 W-30 4 speed. 2500 from the original owner. Drove that until I bought my WE-4 T-Type. After that Jen drove it back and forth to work for quite a while. She was a little hard on it. Every night I would get the report on howe many races she won going to and from work. She would also give me all the little scraps of paper with phone numbers she would find on the car. Again, it was parked in the driveway like any other car.

Lastly is Jens Mach I. She still has it but it doesnt look like that anymore.

Those were the days. Right before the first boom in prices. When musclecars were still affordable and were actually used for thier intended purpose.

Cool hair dude! The 80's were awesome. I'm 40 too. My nephew saw an old picture of me from back then and he thought I was Napoleon Dynamite!

I remember looking in the classified section of the local paper and seeing all kinds of musclecars for less than 5K. Unfortunately, anything more than 1K was out of my league at the time. a $700 1970 Satellite w/318 and a set of Cragers was all I could muster at the time. Once, I came accross a 69 Hurst Olds at a used car lot in my hometown. They wanted 5000 even for it and it was almost in perfect shape. I tried like hell to get my dad to take a look but he thought I was crazy. five thousand for a used car... what was I, crazy?

Thats exactly what I paid the the X. 5 grand! I guess I had a little better power of pursuation over my dad:laugh: My neighbor came over the next day to look over the X. He asked me how much I paid for it. After I told him, he said "you paid 5,000 for a 1970 model?" :puzzled: He looked at me like I was an dope. Nice guy, but he didnt get it.

My father dad come out one day when I was tuning the Holley. The engine is idling in the driveway. The fenders were shaking off the car from the lumpy K-B C107 cam. My father says "Jason, you work on this car all the time. You cant make it run better?" He didnt get it either!

And for all you young punks, everyone in the 80s had big hair!!:Smarty: I was in style! :bglasses: My glasses looked like they were make from a 1950 Buick windshield.

Jen used to have "feathered" hair when I met her. Remember that? She's going to kill me, but here's a pic of her when we first met-

I bought my first car in 1986 and it was a 1970 Stage-1. I really wanted to get a GSX but looked for months on end and could not find one. Living in Nebraska did not help that matter. All the cars were on the coast. I looked at one GSX in Des Moines. The add said minor rust. When we got there you could see the front wheels through the inner front fenders the hole in the trunk was so bad you could see the ground around the gas tank. I am not even sure what was holding it in. I ended up picking up the Stage-1 in Colorado. I miss that car too.

Here's a couple more. Notice the yellow NY plates. Those went out in 86. That car was a runner! Sold it in the local paper for $6500 in 1990.

No pictures, as this story predates digital cameras by about 35 years....

I was coming out of the movieswith by buddies in May of 1970. Right next door is Bertonazzi Buick, and they have a brand new white GSX on the lot. I remember the sticker price over $5,000......:TU:

Back in the day, used muscle was anywhere from $1,000 to 2,500.

New muscle was $3,000 to $5,000.

And, it was everywhere............

She looks like every girl I went out with back then! My yearbook is full of girls with hair like that. Just AWESOME!! I still have a thing for the "big hair" girls of the 80s! It reminds me of all the great times I had back then. :TU:

Rich- I bought it out of the local paper for $5000 in 1985. It had 60k miles on it but it had led a very hard life. There were weld marks on the rear from ladder bars. It had a driveshaft loop, the rear portions of the wheel wells were cut out for headers. The car at one time had a white pearl paint job with black pearl stripes. All that was left of the pearl paint was on the rear spoiler. It was just plain ole white when I had it. When I got the car, it had a B4B on it and a Holley 850 double pumper. That K-B C107 cam had a wicked idle. At the time I worked at the local speed shop right on the main drag. Everyone knew my white "X". It was always parked right out front. I street raced the hell out of that poor car. I got into a fair amount of trouble too. Still have copies of all the tickets!

The guy I bought it from said he bought it from a racer. The racer had gotten it in the very early 70s. The car had been running low 12s from what I was told back then. The original engine and trans were long gone by the time I bought it. I heard rumors the matching numbers engine wound up in a boat. I also heard it was survived and was sitting on a stand. I never concerned myself too much with the original engine. When I got it it had a 70 SF engine and Pontiac tranny in it. I think the tag said "PX"? something. I forget. The trans would shift so hard from first to second, the rear end would drift to the right leaving a pair of squiggly black tire marks. It would chirp third gear. No sh*t! The original 10 bolt 8.2 rear was still in it, but it had 3.90 gears. Rumor has it the car ran a 12 bolt Chevy in its racing years.

I did find the build sheet under the carpet. Found it over the tramsmission hump. Had a big hole from the console screw going through it. It was made the first week of May. Stage 1 automatic. Some of the other options were "GSX mirrors", there was another option for "emblem delete". It was a factory 8 track car which was still in it. Someone had removed the power steering and put a manual box in it. I remember wrenching on that wheel. Mind you, I was about 125 lbs soaking wet at 18. So it took a bit of effort to parrallel park that car.

In talking to the current owner, I think he said it was #611. Next time Im up in Mass, I'll have to make arraingements to visit my old car.

Jason, a white X is quite awesome. You must be kicking yourself for getting rid of it. The red '72 W-30 looks great!:TU: I've got a '72 Cutlass ragtop that I've owned for over 10 years. It's getting the Hurst/Olds Indy pacecar treatment right now. I am installing a detailed 455 in it soon. It's a '68 H.C. 455 shortblock with big valve '72 Ga heads and Edelbrock Performer. Still using the stock "W","Z" exhaust manifolds and stock exhausts/trumpets. I stayed mild with the cam because I want to use the original 2.73 posi for the hiway. I like the the mid/top end power. It should take off well enough. In the early '80's, my daily driver was a Stage1. A '74 Riv. GS Stage1. By 1985, my daily driver ended up being a clean t-top '77 T/A Smokey and Bandit car. The '80's went out with my daily ride being a 1980 T/A Turbo Indy Pace Car.
