I took a look at the JC Whitney site...here's a 35" long Shelby scoop: http://www.jcwhitney.com/hood-scoop-fiberglass-mustang-shelby/p2010325.jcwx?filterid=j1 Can't say if it's the same one I was looking at 25 years ago!
Hey That silver 65 Skylark is mine. Of course, I think it looks great and most people who see that car love it. I did when I first saw it in Bowling Green a few years ago and the next year we bought it.
Years ago,I bought a 65 GS that had a 67 corvette 427 bubble on the hood , even had the spear that ran to the nose of the hood. Very sharp and mild looking. Wish I had it back. updated 425 nailhead with 2-4's, 4 spd and 3'90 gears. Need I say more !!!
Not a '65 but I always liked the teardrop hood I installed on my '67 GS400 4-speed way back in 1976. Never got around to painting it but it still looked cool. I though it fit the large flat area on the '67 and from the side it flowed well. The first pic is from Easter Sunday 1976, the first day I went to the drags which turned out to be a not so good day. The next picture is from Easter 1977 when I didn't go to the races.
Tig that is killer looking - looks like it belongs ....post a picture for us all with a side shot please :TU: :TU:
The early Ford big trucks had a scoop that was just like the stage 2 scoop, except it had a chrome grill over the front and it is not as big.... It was on the f 600 on up trucks.... and it bolted on.... I have put 2 of them on my vehicles,,,, one on a 57 ford fairlane and one on a 74 bronco......
Hi Doc, I was going to mention the Ford scoops. Not that it matters, but I believe that they were mounted backwards on the big Fords. That is -with the opening facing the cab. That is probably why they put the chrome grille on the scoop. Some years ago, they were very popular around here. Most likely because they bolted on.
Those Ford F600 scoops were also used on the early 60's Pontiacs. The story I heard years ago was that Beswick showed up with one on his car and NHRA wouldn't accept it because it wasn't a Pontiac part, so since Beswick was so closely associated with Pontiac at the time they ordered 50 of them from Ford and put their own GM part number on them. After that all the Pontiac guys were using them.
I made the hood with a Goodmark Steel Cowel. Had to due some work on the cowel before attaching it to the hood for proper fit.
Anyone interested in a bolt on Cowl hood for 64-65, please join this thread: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=239871
