I don't see rules for clearances, ring tension, and such... so that would get rather complicated quickly.

I think the quickest 8 or quickest 16 getting the checked would be a good idea.

Regarding lack of tech I think there are several things wrong such as.......

With cars hitting the 11.50's and 11.30's are roll bars now allowed in P/S?
Seems out of place don't you think for Pure Stock.

This race is not heading in a sustainable direction. Maybe now or in the near future it should be called Laughing Stock.

The means to not let it spiral out of control already exist nothing new is required.....just enforce it.

I say P and G anything faster than a 12.50.Pull a valve cover and run a bore scope ,Look for roller cams. NMCA made me pull a valve cover and an intake in 1992 when I ran 12.74 in pure stock. I am not the only guy that feels this way abunch of the other guys racing in FAST feel the same way.I am affraid some of the top cars are mostly NHRA legal stocker engines in pure stock racing. Its getting strange that a pure stock car could have qualified for the FAST quick 8 when the FAST cars could have 100 more cubes, porting, many other benificial things and very big roller cams.Something smells and the word pure is being abused.:blast:

    Dave I personally hate 1 vs 8 shootout's.
Look at Virginia and other races. Put a 10.50 car versus a 11.50 car --Wow man that was exciting never guess who'd win!!:Dou:
Fish in a barrel- fish in a barrel- never get a chance or HAD a chance.

Doug your right it was supposed to be everyone. Tech inspections got away ,Honesty went away. Lightweight parts ,bogus lifters, exotic valve trains, custom cams,727-904 guts trans for mopar -Kilgores for GM. None of it should of EVER been allowed.
Especially for the sake of a JUST HAVE FUN RACE.
But it's progressed to far .
All you can do now is watch -crack a beer and watch the field split into three distinct fields. NHRA Super Stock- F.A.S.T- The way it always was Pure Stock.

Ask some of the Old Time hero's what they think. You may be suprised.

PS. If anyones pissed and going to send me hate mail again for pointing out the obvious kiss my A$$$$$
    I don't care -I didn't mention names .Remember IT's ALL for FUN -RIGHT.!!

I'm not sure what the real answer is here, but I'll agree with Stefina,no new rules are really needed, just enforce a few of the ones already in place!

Well, as a first-timer, I'll be busting my a$$ between now and probably September (June for sure) just to show up with a presentable car that can hopefully run 14s all day, each day without blowing something up.

I guess that puts me proudly in Field #3! See y'all there! :beer

I would have thought this would have really ERUPTED by now.

Thrash or be thrashed is what I always say:TU: What's good for the goose is good for the gander. What does it matter anyway if you are paired up with the guy closest to you.

It is human nature to want to go faster. All the time:Brow:

    Tom,

The neat thing about it is that people can move up to FAST if they want to participate at a different level of rules that allow more freedoms and quicker cars.

The disput is the level of the cars with the intent of the rules. Rules streach may be harmless to you but, if someone was caught running N2O in FAST would you be be so inclined to just say that it's human nature to want to go faster? If so, remove the BAND FOR LIFE statement and I'll understand that it's just racing and not protecting the venue for what it is.

This is not anything more than defending what we hold dear to our heart, The Pure Stock Drags. Please,........no one feel offended..........!!!

I agree with Brian and the others, more rules aren't needed, enforce the ones already written.

But, how many car owners many not know their car is illegal. If the car was bought and the previous owner said it was stock, and no one checks, the new owner may not know.

What irriates me is when the owner knows something is illegal and he still races it. A few years ago there was a AMX with the wrong exhaust manifolds, Dan did catch it and the fellow was allowed to race Friday but not Saturday. I had no problem with letting him race Friday but Saturday would have been a no no.

I'm not sure how to say this but I think the problem lies when a guy sits down and reads the rules.Your "background" determines whether you are a cheater or not.If you are hip to the things the rules say and don't say you will be a "cheater".If you happen to be "average joe" that runs his car once a year and maybe uses the car for ice cream rides and cruizing Woodward you could be wondering why these cheaters are so fast.

I have a idea all this is about a little Poncho.Lets consider this,at the Dutch classic this past weekend Adam Strang set the record in F/S with pretty much the same car as our blue bird in question.Adam went 10.79 at a hair under 123.5.Scott has been 11.60 at 117ish with Ricks bird.Lets assume they have the same engine(we use NHRA specs for cert stock) and I'd be willing to bet Ricks car is much lighter.

So is it that far out that we cant believe 8 tenths and 6.5 MPH?There isn't 8 tenths on the starting line I can tell you that. The stocker has headers probably worth 50 to 70 horses. If we knew more about the blue bird we could do the math.

Maybe you don't like Pontiacs lets look at a 69.5 pack car.Take Jims bee 11.90s at 115ish The C/stocker of Dale Rodgers has gone 10.80s at 122ish.That is 9 tenths and 7 MPH.Again is that hard to believe?

Maybe you are a Chevy fan? Dave Caseys A/stock 69 Vette 10.30s at almost 129.One second and 7 MPH again, anybody else see a pattern here?

My point is,there is different levels to this. And it shows up on the time slip.If you are the kind of guy that puts all the right parts together but doesn't make them work together you might think there are a few guys that are "loose" on the rules. Some of these guys are very experienced and very dedicated.

There is no money in it,Dan doesn't want to tear into paying customers cars and play referee all day.Live and let live.

Tom it's not just the Bird. Others before that to. Remember how the FAST class come about! Used to be Busted your gone- now busted ok ADAPT the rules.

Your posting times from NHRA Super Stock classes. That's what I thought this was never supposed to be. Why the hell did Dan and Bob come up with the name PURE STOCK (the only way to rock) if they ment it to be this.
I used to think of this as a crate motor thing,Mild rebuild -do all the tricks you know - go racing. But now- why grind the beams on factory rods when you can buylonger lighter rods-Short comp height CP or diamond pistons with 1.5 metric rings and Lateral gas ports.

Time for the ONLY opinions that count to be heard !! Grow some nuts and spell it out for use Please !!!!! BoB and DAN Please - Either way I can deal with it- AS LONG as it comes from them DIRECT. Not through self proclaimed ambassadors. Them direct.
I just want to play on the same field. What's legal, What not!
The rules say not lightweight parts,Must be factory trans. What the CASE ??Used to say no rollers, Pandora's BOX HAS BEEN opened.

Please guys no matter what you say- as long as it comes from YOU BOTH !!!
We accept and go on. Pull the reins or open the door.
Just remember we LOSE OUR TRACK AT 11.50's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In theory Tim ,Scott could put the engine out of the blue bird in the record setting STOCK (NOT SUPER STOCK) eliminator car and expect similar results and be perfectly legal.

" do all the tricks you know " I guess some know more tricks and or read the rules.

If you didn't use NHRA blueprint specs what would you use?

The funny thing about it Tom is that if you get on an NHRA STOCK eliminator board, they are all screaming about how much the rules are evaporating over the years. The complaint about new rule proposals is turning it into SUPER STOCK! Guys are fighting about proposed rocker arm rules and class modifications that have changed the class slowly over the years. Maybe this is the inevitable change of Pure Stock as well?

Like I've said before......none of us are saints, but the race seems to be headed in a bad direction.

Its unrealistic to expect NOS cams in every car, so limit how unrealistic with the valvetrain.

It's unrealistic to expect the engine to be as factory assembled, so limit how unrealistic by limiting the fuel supply with no pusher pumps and also the P&G.

All of these rules exist and have for some time.

Cut off the head and the body will die.

    Can't go home again Jim.

Faster is the natural progression. It is unsatisfying to run the same number year after year.Breaking new ground is exciting.Charlie jr goes 8.38 in a Super A car I'd be willing to bet it is the only number the average fans can remember today. It was ground breaking.Nobody notices the 65 273 wagon that goes mid 13s.Not one fan knows the guys name.

I make a effort to pay attention to what I like to watch and guess what it happens to be the Faster cars.

To think that you could put 130 kids in a sand box and have them all "play nice" is the most naive thing I have ever heard of.100 of those kids are crying to Mom.100 Mommies tell a 100 cry babies "find away to deal with it yourself".Meanwhile the other thirty kids come out of the sand box black and blue and most are looking for a bigger shovel.

Hows that from the self proclaimed ambassador?

Tom I'm sure there are a lot of things I don't know.
And I wasn't calling you a self proclaimed ambassador- It was in general people speaking for others.
I DON"T want another pissing match with people over right or wrong.

I just want the rules we already have enforced.
If mechanical pumps can't keep up, do you believe they can do it sucking through a pusher pump that's supposedly off. just used in the SPRING to prime it? Try to pull fuel through the georotor.

Just answer that one question for me. PLEASE -whats your opinion?
I'll wait for your honest answer. I'm not being a jerk -just please post your honest answer.

My honest answer is I have gone 123 in both my cars with nothing more than Carter mech fuel pump. Some people like to waste money

But do you think a stock mechanical (CARTER OR NOT) can pull through a pump thats off?
