Last time out, the headlights were out of alignment bad. Naturally the headlight adjustment turned into a can of worms. The adjusters are plastic. Really bad design The screw goes through the plastic hole. And if you look closely, it's only threaded in three places. So the screw rusts and just strips out the plastic threads... So everything came apart, the adjuster screws were wire wheeled. On a few of the adjusters, I melted plastic in the hole with my soldering gun and essentially resized it. Drilled it smooth then ran a tap threading it 360 degrees. Better than factory. Put it all back together and adjusted them with my hoppy headlight aimers. I might take it to Starbucks to see how much better I can see! Another thing I noticed was the door placard says the tire pressure should be 20 lbs. That's low! I wonder why they recommend only 20 lbs with radials?
Good read on tire pressure for C3. https://www.smokinvette.com/threads/how-much-pressure-do-you-run-in-your-tires.78233/ Devon
I remember talking with Zora about that. He suggested that at 20 psi, there was no way you could haul a fat chic around.
I aired the tires down to 22 from 30 and it has a remarkably better ride. Like night and day difference.
.............but how about traction? Radials usually don't like too low tire pressure as they can cup in the middle.
I did it this time.....one thing that annoyed me was the radio didn't work. And the radio dial had a huge spider nest on it. So out came the radio, which btw, isn't easy. And the speakers are mounted to the bottom side of the dash pad. So needless to say, by the time I was done, half the dash came apart. It was a good thing because I wound up refinishing the center gauge bezel, cleaned and polished the lenses, and did my usual cleaning of the radio. Plus I simple greened all the hvac ducts behind the dash. I also found yet another mouse house under the radio. The top of the speedo and tach, now exposed with the pad removed, was cleaned of mouse poop and dirt. I ordered a pair of new 10 ohm speakers from turnswitch. Hopefully I can get it all reassembled before I forget how it goes back together!
Couple pics of the refreshed dash. The freshly painted dial indicator looks great. The original florescent paint was completely faded. I used testors florescent orange on it. It pops now! Gave the lens a quick polish along with the chrome buttons. The dial face had a spiders nest made on it. Thats finally gone! And the beauty was that it cost nothing and made a huge visual difference. I had the can of spray paint. It was all sweat equity. Like all my cars, the only thing the buyer is going to hsve to do is wash it and change the oil...
I really didn't add up the hours, just the dollars and cents. I don't think I have that many hours in it though
The GSX doesn't draw as much attention as you might think. I don't think people really appreciate or know what they're looking at. The Corvette actually drew alot of attention. It's such an iconic car. Some people took pictures of it lol
I'm surprised the GSX isn't so attention worthy. I seem to remember when we were kids, everyone always wanted a GSX or a 1st gen Camaro. I guess the Vettes have always been an attention getter. There's just so many around still.
There must of been 25 corvettes there. They're like buttholes and opinions...everyone's got one. But I'm almost guaranteed to be the only GSX there!
Not yet! I've had it for about 3 months at this point. It's been on the fast track to make it a fun, reliable car and I'm almost there. I put about a 100 miles on it for far. I do have a standing offer on it but I think I can do better. I'm probably going to Floorplan it till spring at this point and sell it in the spring around tax return season when everyone is flush with cash.
This is gonna be LOUD! Chambered exhaust! The old exhaust was shot! Had the original "figure 8" mufflers. I added it to the side exhaust scrap pile! The old exhaust was really necked down. The pipes were 2". The new exhaust is 2 1/2" and the mufflers are basically straight through
