I'm trying to determine if the alternator is original or not. I'm not real sure of how to determine the date code or how to decipher it. The code I found is "7F9." The car is a '69 GS400. Also, does anyone know the correct finish the alternator should have. The fan has a reddish tint to it. Is this correct? Thanks!
Example - "9J18" = 1969 September 18. Rick, Yours is 1967 (or 1977 or 1987) June 9th. Steve, Yours is 1962 (or 1972 or 1982) August 31st. Need the part number stamped next to the date code to know for sure if it is the proper alternator.
Forgot to add...had the Skyhawks alternator restored by the following: http://www.kenbrunomotorsports.com/ Not the cheapest, but did an excellent job.
Brad, The part # I found is above the date code. It reads: 1100760 55A (amp rating?) My '69 parts book shows a Delcotron # of 1100694 for a 55 amp, for an A/C equipt car. Can you shed some light? Thanks! :beer Thanks!
So what is the correct alternator part number for a 69 GS? (mine was actrually built in sept 68). I see references to 1100774 elsewhere online, you were asking about a 1100694. Is either one correct for an AC car? -- Steve
Steve, I checked in my 69 assembly manual, and it shows part # 1100774 (55 AMP) alternator as being correct for a 1969 400-430 with AC. I also looked through the revision block and there is no indication that the part number was ever changed. Duane
My Trim Tag reads ST 69 44667 BF 00008 BDY TR 185 53A PNT 09C 020 440 2100 88 I assume that means it is a september 1968 build. I was looking at the gyrhead site and they have 11000774 alternators with 8J11, 9D1, and 9E2, and 9H29 date codes. I guess none of those are correct for me? -- Steve
So am I right that my car was built in sept 68, or am I off by a year? I just figured sept 68 due to the low body number -- thought I saw that discussed somewhere else once. VIN ends in 101681, if that helps. -- Steve
You're correct, Steve. September (09) 3rd week (C) for the 1969 model year, built in September, 1968. Number 1681 (101681) off the line for that model year (1969). Very low body number, too (0008) for, if I'm not mistaken, the Fremont plant. A very early car, to be sure.
Gee man, didn't know you had a book for sale. If i did, i would have purchased it long ago and stopped asking stupid questions like this for you to answer. So uh, how does I gets me one? -- Steve
Cost is $44.50 shipped to your door. You need to send your check or money order to Duane at the following address: Classic Car Interiors 120 President Ave. Rutledge, Pa. 19070 You'll be glad you have this valuable book...you'll be able to use it on just about any GM car built in the 60's/70's.
Duane is organized?????? Did the wife help you get organized????? Duane has a PayPal address?????
George, Now you know me, only the date code info got organized. But I will tell you this, it sure saves me time when answering questions, because now I don't have to search through all my different "binders" to find the info. I also am constantly updating the book, just the other day I found some codes cast into a few Olds parts, and incorporated that info. Sorry, no PayPal address yet, we are currently working to update the website and will include the info for ordering the book, maybe I will add PayPal at that time. Duane
Duane -- MO for $45.00 on its way tomorrow. Okay, now that I know what I'm looking for -- an alternator wqith a date code somewhere prior to Oct 1968 -- any hints on finding one? or just post on the board? -- Steve
Steve, I would say post it on the board. If you post the part number and date codes you are looking for you should get some action. Duane PS. Your book will be in the mail to you tomorrow or at the latest wednesday.
