I really want an original Buick police car, any year, any model, can anyone let me know if they know of any, anywhere? Even if they might not be for sale, I would still love to hear about them.
This thread shows one for sale currently.http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36778&highlight=police+car
i like the old dodge polara police cars. i think they had a 383 until the 440 wedge was put into them...not sure, im a buick guy! would have been cool to have GN-X police interceptors!
When I was in Hawaii in 1986, the cops all used the Buick GN's and/or Regals as their police cars in Honolulu. It was Great! I also heard back in '86 and '87 that the FBI used the GN's as well. Pretty cool look I bet, black suits with the black shades and a black car. :blast: I read this in a Car and Driver magazine
I know a guy with one of the FBI Turbo Regals for sale (I think he still has it). It's gold, which is one of the rarer colors. Let me know if you're interested.
4 Speed, I scanner the 1964 Buick Police line booklet and uploaded it to my website. Here is the link: Buick Full Sized Police Cars
Illinois State Patrol uses Grand Nationals and Firebird Formula 350's!:eek2: I've also seen them in a Mustang GT Convertible. It's just "weird" to see those cars with FLASHING POLICE LIGHTS!:TU:
N.P.D. Buick Special Police Cars In 1968,Naugatuck,Connecticut had Black 1968 Buick Special police cars. They even had a black Special stationwagon.I was a kid,but I remember seeing them around town. ......John
Buick police cars On the TR FBI cars, I believe they were all T-Types or Turbo-T's and not GN's. There is a distinct RPO for these cars that can be matched on the trunk sticker if anyone has one in question. I'll have to do some digging and get it for this thread. I believe they got a special chip with no mph limiter like the stockers had. Also had radio delete and gun racks built into the headliner/ roof area for a shotgun. I've read posts from those that have these and they still had the gunracks on the ceiling! Pretty sure they had an upgraded speed rated tires/ rubber too as these were pursuit cars. On a smaller scale, there are a couple of 1:64 scale Buick Police cars available with a TR and GS. They turn up on ebay often. Coolest police cars I've ever seen used were the 71-4 design AMC AMX used by the Troopers in Alabama. You can see an original one at the Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talledega, AL. 401 CI motors. Love that design body!
Flint, and Genesee County Sherriffs used Buicks as police cars in the 60's and 70's. I remember the 70 LeSabres with 455's were well liked by the officers. Have a long story about my buddies Hemi in a big chase through the southern half of the County (Hemi won.) The Flint cars were mostly a metalic blue and the the Sherriff cars were white. Sorry do not have pics.
Back around 68 I saw on I10 a full size Buick patrol car that belonged to Calcishieu Parrish in Louisiania. It had no trouble coming onto the entrance ramp and overtaking the traffic. The exaust tome told me it had low restriction mufflers on it. And thats all I got to say about that. Doc
more info on the FBI TR's FBI TR's would have RPO code BD1. Also would have space saver delete and full size spare. Title would state, "prior State Govn" I have lots more info on these cars in Kirban's book at home. I'll add at a later time.

Interesting topic........................I know for a fact, the City of Pittsburgh had 3 '87 T-Types. Used as undercover cars. They are all retired now. I believe Doug Hartley owns one.
A friend of mine has his 87 turbo regal, a documented FBI car for sale. Great history and very fast. PM me if interested Mark
