Buick Police Cars.. What I would most like to find would be a Lesabre, preferably late '60's-early '70's with a 455, a bare bones car would be really cool. Anyone ever seen one? I would even consider a later car or a Regal with a 455 (Kojak style!).
I will talk to one of the local deputies and see if they have any pics from the 70s. I think the Flint cars were mostly 350's the Sheriff cars were 455's. The State Cops thought their Plymouths were bad anywhere but Genesee County. We had them all over the place and never thought of them as cool cars. Shows the stupidity of youth.
I dont have any pictures of that turbo car, I just remember seeing it in Kirbans catalog , it is a chestnut brown with palomino cloth and all the cool FBI items that help maintain the history of the car. Mark
This article says the FBI bought 50 1987 Grand Nationals: <img src="http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v23/Buickclubholland/BuickScans/1986-1987GrandNational1.jpg"> <img src="http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v23/Buickclubholland/BuickScans/1986-1987GrandNational2.jpg"> <img src="http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v23/Buickclubholland/BuickScans/1986-1987GrandNational3.jpg"> <img src="http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v23/Buickclubholland/BuickScans/1986-1987GrandNational4.jpg">
How COOL is that!!! According to that literature, you could get a LeSabre police package with the 430 and a MANUAL tranny! That's what I want!!!
This post got me to thinking how cool it would be to own that Ex-FBI car, so I bought it today!!!!! Mark:TU:
This isn't a Buick Police Car but if you are interested in a black and white unit this could be the one. I spent a few hours thinking about buying it. The working radar is a real draw, along with being a classic Chevy. Without any further adooo, here's the link: http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/8/6/65384386.htm If you want a cop car, this one looks pretty good to me for the price. There's also an Andy Griffith Ford cop car for sale but I'm not into Fords. http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/3/4/65767534.htm
Me too! Aside from my '73 Stage1 4-speed car, I also own a '71 Ford Custom police package, all numbers matching and original w/ a 429 CJ, also known as the "PI", 11.3 to 1 compression and 370 horse from the factory. I have owned about 50 Mopar cop cars (no exaggeration) over the past 7-8 years but have sold them all and am down to just a couple cars for the first time in a while. I am now searching for only a select few, rare cop cars, including a Buick, only catch is, they must be the real deal...no clones.
Does that 64 Chevy look like the real deal to you or a clone? It seems like a pretty decent price for a classic Chevy with all the cop goodies even though it's a 283. A 409 would be way cooler.
It is definitely a clone, there are a million old Chevies and Fords cloned to resemble cop cars, usually black and white, and a lot of "Andy Griffith" cars, these are usually made from Bel Airs of Galaxie 500's, etc. and are nowhere close to the original Biscaynes and Customs that were actually used. Of course, the real deal is hard to find, most were abused and junked, only to lose their motors to some Camaro or Mustang and be grenaded on a drag strip somewhere a year or so later...this was the fate of most real cop cars. To find a real one that is still intact is a rarity, if you do, buy it!!! They are the fastest appreciating segment of the collector car market and are much more rare than any Hemi, Six Pack or, dare I say, Stage1 Buick. They made a lot more of them, but far fewer survived, and that's not an exaggeration. A bare bones, 4-door balls to the wall musclecar is all they were back then, if you've never driven a 1970's Fury I with a 440HP and stiff hemi-type suspension, you've not experienced the cop car sensation, if you ever get a chance, do it.
Way back in the early 80's I was a member of the Sheriff Explorers group a gathering of kids interested in Law Enforcement.( a kinda ride with a cop program) We had for OUR car a early 70's Ford "LTDish" styled)can't remember) with the works, all the lights, sirens,radio.....but the front part of the single bubble light was yellow the rear was red. The most awesome part was the engine, a 429 Interceptor, "WARMED OVER" the speedo read 130 mph. And we tested it , a few times , running down in fun, one of our members 454 SS 72 Monte Carlo. that car guided along at 120 mph and had a ton left over. It used to be a County Sheriff full "CHASE" vehicle and was known to used in chasing down a Vette , all they did was rotate the bubble till the red was foward, no other cop car in the early 80's could keep up with the Vette, so they put in a call to our Patrol unit they came over, did some quick wrenching, took it an left. The vette owner finally gave up when he couldn't out excelerate that Ford. :3gears: ohhh the fun we had in it....till the club was dimished due to lack of real intrest to "continue". later
