Just imagine if the government mandated that every household had a gun rather than trying to disarm us, I bet crime would drastically decrease.

Having a gun in the house doubles or triples the odds that a resident of said house will die by getting shot when compared to residents of neighboring houses.

We just had a similar situation in st Charles mo where a thug robbed 3 gas stations back to back. At his last stop a customer retrieved his 9mm and dropped him. The robber had a knife to the cashiers throat. I just completed my ccl and in illinois the customer who dropped him could be charged w manslaughter. My cop buddy says it depends on prosecuter.

In a safe country people don't have to be afraid and think that they have to own a gun.

Only 3 countries in the world protect the right to bear arms in their constitutions:
    the US, Mexico, and Guatemala.

Only three countries in the world currently have a constitutional right to own a gun: the US, Mexico, and Guatemala.

Six other countries used to have a constitutional right to bear arms, but they’ve since repealed those laws.

The US is the only country with a right to keep and bear arms with no constitutional restrictions.

Even better: eighteen nations and one US territory maintain a police force of patrolling officers who do not carry firearms:

With a permanent population of more than 66 million, plus an additional 500,000 international students each academic year and a rotating tourist population of an additional 37 million,
the United Kingdom is by far the country on this list with the largest population.

As a political, social, and economic superpower, it is surprising to many that the UK continues to operate a largely police force.

In fact, since the first formal policing forces of the 19th century, the British have operated under the policy that officers should be approachable as guardians of the citizenry, rather than the hunters of criminals.

According to a survey, 82% of the police force reported they did not want to be armed while on duty, and even though they may have feared for their life while on patrol they remain opposed to carrying firearms.

Subsequently there are markedly fewer incidences of fatal interaction between the police and suspected criminals in the UK than in any other G7 Nation.

You take your life in your hands everyday weather you realize it or not.
I risk my life everyday going to work defenseless in a very high crime area. My friend and neighbor was shot to death in his own house during a home invasion 10 years ago. Just my own opinion, but I don't want to get killed on account of not shooting back.

There are, on the low side, 800k defensive gun uses in this country every year. Many don't even get reported because just brandishing the gun deters the criminal from committing his crime.

My best advice to anyone who doesn't like guns is to not get one.

Leaving the keys to your car on the counter is not much different than leaving a gun unsecured in the home. If you have kids and their friends around this gets exponentially worse.
It is about being responsible, with all aspects of ones life. Remember the object doesn't commit acts without human control....
We just had 15 more women take another class (#5 of 10) on personal gun safety. They ranged in age from 22- 76. We pushed the steel 8" targets out to 25-30 yrds, due to their accuracy.
I have no problem with them being my neighbors.
We just had a deputy drop a disturbed person at the local campground here this weekend. Lesson "Do not aim a firearm at a police officer unless you plan to end your life.

Can you state your source for that info. It’s certainly not true here in Florida anyway.

With the economy getting worse, lax enforcement, putting more turning to desperation, I would guess home invasions and violent crime would get worse.
My state just passed severe new gun laws, but nothing that affects criminals. Heck, they drop most gun charges in criminal cases.
I'll take the risk of having a firearm in my home.

not in a house with a responsible gun owner! a house with 1 gun or 10 guns is a safer house than a house with no guns as long as gun owner respects and is responsible for said guns.

Maybe -- I cannot say I watch the nightly news with any regularity. Still, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, all covered this incident prominently on their web sites.

Yes, mass shootings are getting less and less attention unless the shooter does something unusual or there are a high numbers of deaths. Three dead victims is big news in many parts of the world, but in the US it is humdrum day-in, day-out, run-of-the-mill stuff that is hardly news worthy.

Here’s today’s New York Times front page (had to split it in two). You see the story barely covered, below the fold, with a headline that doesn’t even mention the good samaritan. (Story on page A-15!). Their webpage also downplays it. I guess it doesn’t fit their ‘guns bad!’ narrative.
