Well today I get off the freeway and im waiting for the light when POOOOOOOF! white smoke billowing from my duals. I pull over call AAA wait three hours for a flatbed:af: So I get it to my shop. First thing I check is the oil. No milky color looks normal. Start the engine and notice im getting antifreeze on the carb coil??? Im not to sure how the water passages work on the intake but im thinking that it either is cracked:Smarty: or the gasket sprung a leak. Im puzzled. It goes to the mechanic in the morning. Any ideas as to why I might be getting water in the exhaust chamber?
Hope it's not a blown head gasket.

Aw, man, just when we were gonna make the ignition healthy.

Could be a cracked head, in the exhaust port, etc. Hopefully, its ust a head gasket or something simple, fingers crossed.

Your telling me Dave. I see your feeling better.:TU: Give me a call when it's done. I'll run on over to pick it up. Thanks.

    Ivan - That really stinks!!!!!:stmad:

I'm guessing head gasket - if I had to pick something.

Looks like it's time to start working on a 'spare bullet', once you get this sorted out.:Brow: At least you know where to find an extra 350 for sale for a reasonable price!!

On the bright side....at least you got to enjoy a beautiful day at Woodley Park Sunday with it!!:TU:

You'll be up and running in no time.

    Same thing

I had the same thing happen to my 350, it was the head gasket pushing exhaust gasses back through the cooling system and a little into the cyl. (white smoke). All fixed now with no problems so far.

    Good Luck,

    David

Ivan, the way your dist fits inbto the engine, looking at it from the driver's side, where is the vacuum advance, in clock positioning? Like 9:00m noon, etc. Want to make sure the module will clear, might want to mnake this one remote module. Need this asap, yours is today.

    Ivan,
What is the carb coil? You can also leak A/F into the engine from the coolant passages at the front of the intake manifold. Did you work on the intake? If so did you put RTV around the water passages on both sides of the metal gasket? I have seen manifolds leak out the front in the corners, near the head. The fan can blow the A/F around onto the engine. A head gasket usually blows on one side, so there would only be smoke from one dual. Hope it is something easy.

I would have to say it is at a 7:00 to 8:00 position depends on the timing:Brow: Thanks Dave.

:Dou: I meant to say choke. I was somehow getting Antifreeze up in that area. I would imagine the intake gasket was not sealed properly. Anyways my head gaskets where in good shape. I did take my heads to get a valve job. Turns out the previous machine shop did an allright job but one of the valves where sunk in. I figured do the work while the heads are off.

Hm, might be a problem for a distributor mounted module. Could hit the water pump moouning rail under the dist. I'm to the point of needintg to know if the dist will fit by moving the phasing in the timing cover to maybe the noon to 1:00 position. All I have to do on it is to finalize the module mounting type, make the nescessary parts/wiring and it'll be done.

If remote module, the hole on the top of the intake manifold, in the pic, by the 1/3 port would be good for the module mount. Coil should be mounted with the wire end striaght up, like on the front of the head.

Dave does this picture help? It clearly shows how my distributor is setup.

Lookin good Ivan:TU: I love the pic of the parts laying on the bench. Reminds me of my head gasket extravaganza.

Ivan, we should be OK with the module on the dist and not remote. It all depends on two things, which body the dist has, can or can't fit the module to it (you have the 1/2 type, OK for dist body mounint), and, clearance between the dist and timing cover/other parts.

From the pics, and my just looking at the dist, the module would be mounted just below the holddown clamp at the noon position, so there should be clearance for it on the body.

Will be done about noon or slightly later. Paperwork late this evening. Call me tomorrow if you wish.

Thanks Dave. I agree and think the module on the dist should work fine. I will call you thursday and schedule a pick up time. I cant wait. New valves and top end build. New distributor should wake my little 350 right up:eek2:
