My ears ring constantly....probsbly from years of fixing dynamometers, open MT headers, working in repair shops, shooting rifles when I was younger with no ear protection.. I've had it for a while but it seems to of kicked into high gear recently. It drives me nuts sometimes
I've had it for more 55 years. Fortunately, it is a steady state whine along varied pitches, so much brain is able to block it to a great extent. Sometimes the "volume" gets up to about 9.5, but it still not debilitating. I have known folks with less pronounced variations, but being intermittent, warbling, clicking, static and other "variable" aural manifestations that can be impossible to ignore and is extremely distracting. That stress would get to me and make me buggy, fast. I don't complain about mine, because it isn't trying to make me insane or kill me. I feel for those that have it bad.
It's a steady noise similar to the ringing you get after hearing an extremely loud noise. It's trying to go to sleep or just trying to de-stress when it gets to me I guess in the grand scheme of things, there are far worse afflictions in this world to have
Got it and loss of hearing from my time in the service. I find that it gets worse if I get exposed to loud sounds. Bands, race track (I wear ear protection), always wear ear protection around any loud equipment.
I've had it for years but it has progressively gotten worse past the age of 50. Sometimes I wake at night and think I hear an alarm in another room only to get up and find out it's just my hearing. I am also losing my hearing according to the wife.... Too many loud concerts, guns, cars, etc. Without hearing protection. I now know better but it may be too late
I had it so bad it sounded like I was in a bird sanctuary. It accompanied gradual hearing loss. I finally got rid of it completely when I got bionic ears
I've had tinnitus for the last 5 years or so and can modulate the level of buzzing I hear by turning my head and clenching my jaw. Drives me crazy. Loud noises from car engines, guns, tools, airplanes, concert's etc., with no ear protection caused the problem. I'm paying for it now. Wear ear protection! Otherwise, like me, you stand to never hear or perceive real silence later in life.
Having Tinnitus and hearing loss I shake my head every time I pass a rice rocked or other vehicle with the HUGE speakers in it that shake my truck. They don't have a clue as to what they are doing to their hearing. Once it's gone they will probably want to get on SSI disability.
I have had tinnitus for 20+ years and now hearing loss. The older I get, the worse it gets. Loud cars, loud motorcycles, loud concerts and loud guns, all without hearing protection has caught up with me.
I've had it for at least 10 years, it's getting progressively worse, but not to the point yet where it keeps me awake or drives me insane. Seems to get worse when I am overly tired.
Mine came on as a side effect from chemo. The more I had, the worse it got. Then it stayed that way. Every time I get pi$$ed off about it (like trying to enjoy the softer passages of certain songs), I’m reminded that it could’ve been much worse
When I got hearing aids it helped so I don’t notice it as much. I worked in ship yards, fabrication shops, drove loud cars, fired rifles and shot guns, none of which helped the ringing in my ears. Younger guys, protect your ears! There is no cure.
One day, it got so annoying that I swore it was something electrical making a whining noise. I went so far as to shut the main breaker on my fuse panel and killed power to the whole house only to find it was still with me. Now I just ignore it like the voices in my head. Lol
I've had it for a while also. Usually I can tune it out, but then someone starts a thread like this. Thank you.
Sometimes mine wakes me up at night that high pitched whine is so loud. As most of these guys say, you just learn to live with it. I run a fan beside my head when I sleep at night, white noise does an amazing job at making it bearable. When I want to nap during the day I put the Bose speaker with music on quietly right beside me just to block the ringing. It really does help. I'm over 60 and don't recall a time in life when I didn't have it. Things could be a lot worse. My wife lives in pain 24/7 and has done so for decades already. I see tinnitus as being minor in comparison, thankfully.
I have central air but run a window A/C in my room year round at night. In the winter I keep it on the fan setting, it really helps.
Actually I recent saw an article about how some guys at MIT have a potential cure. It's got something to do with regrowing tiny hairs in your ear. https://www.tinnitusformula.com/library/mit-develops-drug-for-reversing-hearing-loss-and-tinnitus/
