As an observer from the stands, I can tell you that I don't need to see a timeslip to say that most these races are decided on the line. I'm not talking the first 60 feet; I'm talking reaction times.

I know that launching your Pure Stock cars on Polyglas -- or worse yet, street radials -- is like dancing on the head of a pin (does that make all you guys angels? :Brow: ), but there's a lot of room for improvement in your reaction times. Can I say that without making enemies? Seems like a goal of every RT being less than .100 should be achievable with a little practice. :Do No:

    Jlerum,
the black with white strip 70 ls6 chevelle owner was first class!! Great car, we talked about both of our setups being so close. He went 12.89 taking off in second gear early in the morning on saturday, but told me he started in first gear for both of our races, but was going to try 2nd gear if we raced a third time, either way i lost both races, reaction time was the reason for the first race, second race was all him, as i was out in front for the first half of the track and then he blew by me.

A little frustrating when you spend close to $5,000 on the car and it goes the same et as last year!! Dont know what i will have to do to get the thing in the 12's. may be sell it and buy an L88 or a chevelle!! or even a mopar!!

Join the club. I'm running the same as I was 4 engine builds ago with the 31 year old, untouched, original engine. Some factory combinations are hard to beat. LS-6, L79, and W31 are already there. Hard to improve upon the engines, rest of the car is fertile ground, though. :bglasses:

I don't know about .33 faster.......................I ran .38 s-l-o-w-e-r than my qualifying time. And my 14.09 qualifying time was .24 slower than my average of 2 year's ago.:af:

    Talk about going backwards.:Dou:

My 60' times ran backwards too. From an average 1.97-2.02 60' to this year's 2.34/2.24/2.34. Do you think my 8 year BFG Radial T/A's have lost their "touch"?? Or has the driver???:puzzled:

And this is supposed to be fun???

there's lots of ET gains hiding in any car aside from the motor. i've found quite a few. they don't all come at once. it takes lots of trial and error. i've fought axle hop for years on the car. the Cokers were a big gain. once i got some good bite, there were other things to gain from.

8 year old tires?? Radials?? :Dou:

A new set of Goodyear or Firestone reproduction bias plys with about 40 pounds of air oughta be about half a second better. :eek2:

I was hot lapping Rhonda's car after the races made seven runs. Undid the sway bar, losened the front shocks ,pumped up the tires-Heated the tires tobejesus and wittled down the times.. She qualified 13.98 and worked on the launch and shift points to perfection. 13.69 at 101..:beer :beers2: :TU:
Can't beat cold air !!!!!! can"t get much closer to 3 tenths than that without breakin out!!

I've got 10 year old Firestone wide ovals (Coker reproduction) and they suck. 2.2- 2.3 60' times. Next year new tires for sure. This year my $$$ went to getting the 69 Chevelle to stock so Justin could race with his brother and me.

    Hey LS6Racer,

Nice times...especially that 13.16. That's gotta' be your best to date. I'm with you on "just bangin' gears." Sure do hope someone out there has got these races on a VCR. Appears it was an outstanding event from the grandstands as evidenced by the videos of races posted here. I sure did want to attend this.

Whoever was the cameraman did an outstanding job.

Hope to drop by and have a cold one with you Paul. You can bring me up to speed on how Ken, his Dad and Tom did.

    Regards,

    Jim
