you gotta understand I live in a place where very few people drive anything older than 1980.

like I said I hav'nt really been out and about scrounging for parts, but I do know that regular old BOP th400's are abundant.

speaking of which, you said the tranny was different, you mean just the bolt pattern right?anything else?

this is probably the wrong section to talk about this but,

I expect to change the wiring and accessories, not a problem,I would rather have all that new or like new anyway, the only thing I'm really worried about is the fitting of the engine/tranny

    -thanks

I believe the earlier 401's had a different style flange than the 64'+up 401"/425". Not sure what year they went with the traditional th400 BOP bolt pattern.:Do No:

Here are flow #'s(at 28") for a bone stock Caddy head:

    lift/Intake/Exhaust
    .100/72/35
    .200/119/87
    .300/162/129
    .400/214/149
    .500/237/160

The Bulldogs are (so far) in the 370 range @ .700" lift. Over 400 is expected once they get them dialed in. 'Out of the box' they're in the 285 range.

I love a Nailhead engine. But, I know your money problem. They are the highest of the 3 engines to build according to what I know. I too have checked into the Caddy engine rebuilds. I have a 500 from an Eldo. that I have been holding onto for a future project. I read several posts on some Caddy boards in 2003 and was amazed at the potential these engines have. The blocks and bottom end must be bullet-proof. Personally, I would like a Buick powered Buick. You could get the donor 67 Riv. and make the swap easy!!! Best of all, you have these people and this board to give you the knowledge on how to do it!!!!! Love this board!!! Good luck.
