Ya know Ethan, I have a feeling if we lived in close proximity, we'd get along quite well! Haha. I'm gonna do the gauge just for curiosity's sake, but step 2 of the plan will involve a chair, some Yuengling just as you said.

right on. I'd share the same sentiment at this point. Enjoy the badassery. If it works, enjoy it while it work.

Been a while since I updated the state of the "Rusty Hulk". I now have a log book with about a dozen entries with all the carb changes I've made. Jets, squirter nozzles, accelerator pumps/cams, power valves, I've messed with it all. Although frustrating at times, the tinkering is admittedly fun (especially when you feel a difference for the better).

That said, the car's probably running better than it ever has. Off idle acceleration at part throttle is way stronger, and the "stutter" when the I stab it and the secondaries open is still there, but much less prevelant than its ever been. WOT afr's are getting there as well, hanging around the low 13's. Still a bit rich, but a little safe and I'm ok with that. The thing pulled hard before, but now it's even stronger than its ever been. Still got some fine tuning to go though, but after a couple decent cruising sessions over the weekend, it was pretty enjoyable to drive (and give the beans a few times :p )!

I swear after the last drive yesterday it even looked like it was smiling. Wait, maybe that was just me....haha

Yeah mines more like I'm at the point of no return. Just dig in and keep making progress. Hopefully will see a nice tire roast out of Rusty soon enough? I guess the question is how soon are ya ready to replace the tires lol.

    Thanks,

    Jesse Z.

It's funny, those rear tires maximum life span has gone up in smoke a few times  but there's no photographic evidence of it as of yet. Guess I need to do something about that...

Just last weekend the wifey and I took it for a little drive to get some ice cream. On the way back i found myself stopped at a desolate intersection in the rural lands and couldn't help myself. Didn't warn the wife, it was quite funny. She was hanging on for dear life screaming and called me a "FRICKEN MANIAC!!" (whatever that means... )
Glad you keep an eye, after all your car had an influence on my cam selection!

Well, got to have some fun today. After making an exhaust change I took rusty for a drive to see how it sounded. Sounded great and was running really well! Stopped and got gas, a chicken salad sammich, and a Gatorade, and pointed it towards home. Gave it a little goose coming outta the gas station for a few onlookers, and when I got about a half mile from the house it SHUT COMPLETELY OFF. DEAD. Cranked, but no fire. First thought was fuel system since I had just filled it up. Either way, it wasn't budging. I started pushing, and luckily my neighbor spotted me and came out to help (he's the best neighbor I've probably every had, and it just so happens hes about the size of an NFL d-lineman. Boy can that guy push a Buick!) Anyway, got it into the front garage and found this:

I'd say that could cause firing problems....

Yeah the spark won't jump that far between metal terminals but get your hand anywhere near it and it'll zap you when you don't expect it. Maybe plug/coil wires should be made of human skin. I've been zapped a bunch.

Got it fixed (cut off the old boot and connector and crimped on new ones). Here the new exhaust sound. I liked the magnaflows at idle and cruise, but when giving it some pedal, I just never could fall in love with the sound. Got some summit brand flowmaster super 44 knock offs, did a little welding to adapt the same pipe size as the Maggie's, and bent up/welded a hanger so now I could direct bolt on swap for the magnaflows. We'll give it time, but so far the sound is a bit more my style I think.

It's louder at idle, a little louder at cruise (although not too bad, and very little drone which had me worried), but at WOT its about the same level loudness wise, just a tone I like a pinch better. Nothing against the Maggie's, just exhaust are such a "different strokes" type thing.

Sounds pretty darn good to me. At idle it sounds just like my Flowmaster super 40's
You probably have less drone at cruise though, which is a good thing. I too am contemplating going with the 44's
for a little deeper sound even though the 40's sound pretty good.
Are you thinking that the Summit "brand" 44's are made by Flowmaster?

    Thanks Ethan!
I can't confirm or deny, but I'm highly suspicious. The build and quality is identical as best I can tell, and although it's been a while since I've bought flowmasters, these came in a box emblazoned with large "Made in the USA" adornments which I believe we're the same as flowmasters. Also, when I went to order, there were 2 versions, one slightly more expensive than the other ($29 vs $36). Without saying the name directly, summit tech support said one was 44's vs 40's. I went the slightly more expensive "44 knockoffs". For $36 a whack, I think it's a steal.
