Well, my car is almost finished. The body of it anyway, the new engine is due this winter probably. New tires also, and rims. The spoiler on it, and then stripes. Already got the hood on it, just haven't taken a good pic of it. It's basically turning into a GSX clone. Got a 12bolt rear axel on it, with 3:55.1 gearing, hooked up to a TH400. Got a new 3inch exhaust lying around with a pair of headers, going to be installed with the new engine. It does however have enough power to rip both wheels at half throttle, which is fine for the time being. It's a 1972 smog-455 I think. Just put on some new sh.t for the wellbeing and looks of it. It's getting ripped out this winter for a 455 bored 0.20 over, to about 470cui. .600 lift, aluminium intake and port/polished heads, also aluminium. One aggressive cam and some other goodies. It's also got a new aluminium radiator.. I could lift it with my pinky. And this is the newest buy, a pair of 275/50/R15 Hoosier slicks. They're looking quite lovely. Atleast it looks a whole lot better with the front and rear bumpers on. Going to get a 1970's front bumper and grille, as it looks a lot better than the 72's. In my opinion of course. Oh, and I went with Chevy's Rally Green colour, as it's quite beautiful, and since it's already being aimed towards a 10 second street car, I wasn't going for an ALL original look for it. After this is finished, I'd probably be helping my mother with her all original Buick Riviera 1965, with the LX block 425 with dual 4bbls. Or my dads 1965 Sportwagon. Buick family ftw.
Hey, first off beautiful car... thought you might like my edit of your car... much brighter and more detail... Dave
You should add some sport mirrors as well in place of those square chrome mirrors - would help streamline the car in my opinion.
Yeah, sport mirrors have been bought, just waiting for the paint. Also, the engine is decoded, it's a 1973 Electra 455, which is what, 240hp? She did 9.168 in the 1/8th's with 78mph trap speed. And this was done with no engine modification, slicks, and a dodgy rear axle. Matched on the spoiler for now, until it's off for paint.
Cheers. Going in for winter storage now, the next time it's coming out I'll be running the 468' BB Buick and 295's tucked up in the back.
looks nice...cant wait to see it complete....I will buy the chrome mirrors from you since your putting sports on...
Well, all I've got left on the GSX clone is the engine I'm putting together, spoiler getting back from paint, going to get a Stage 2 hood and the stripes. While I am waiting for it, I grew kind of impatient, so I got a 1965 Buick Riviera with a 425 LX Nailhead with dual carbs. Originally painted Burgundy Mist, it was kind of shabby so I re-painted it the same colour. It's got all the options, but it was one of a few made basically as a GS but without the badge. One of 454 I think it was. Oh and I got a pair of 295/50/15's for my GSX.
Another update, with the lack of things to do since I still haven't recieved my GSX wing from paint, I started on the 470cui engine. I took a few hours to start assembling it, so I started out with this; And ended up with this a few hours later. Took a while to dial in the piston rings. Getting closer to getting it together.
Yeah, thought I'd go with black since the rest of the engine bay is black and the car is green. The original red would be too much of a contrast. Also not sure if I'm going to keep the valve covers or buy either Satin or Back TA Performance ones.
Well, hitched the engine in today after some work, got some hoses and wiring left. Doesn't look pretty, but I aim to get it working as fast as possible. I want to drive this thing as well. All aluminium radiator with dual electric fans. Should keep it cold. That's all for now. Will update when I get it running.
First thing - car looks great:TU: Its been a long time since I built an engine - so don't kill me if I am wrong but..... Are those Pistons in correctly???? The notches just seem in the wrong places
Yeah, I keep it tidy. Yep, they were, noticed it soon after the pic was taken. I blame working while being utterly exhausted. Good thing I noticed it atleast.
Went out today. Got the exhaust ready, got everything done, tried to start her up. Absolutely ****-all happened except the occasional exhaust bang. Thought it was the ignition acting up at first, changed absolutely everything from distributor to spark plugs, same issue. Checked compression just in case, compression is fine. I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong. I am so sick of this car. Everything goes wrong, EVERYTHING. Not one simple thing has gone right so far. Now I probably have to tear apart the engine AGAIN
Getting spark, getting fuel, turned dist 180 and tried, still the same. I'm going to go out for a walk and think things over, if there's something I've overlooked. EDIT- I FOUND IT. I set the camshaft slightly off. It looked correctly, exactly like it should but it wasn't. Thank god.
