I'm rebuilding my 65k mile '69 two barrel 350. I'm just planning of freshening up the rings, and bearings, performing a valve job and installing a stock q-jet manifold and carb. I'm on a budget so I'm not going to replace the low compression pistons. My question is what cam is recommended for a stock low compression 350 that would give me a little more power?

    Thanks,
    Brandon

I think the TA 112 grind would serve you well.:TU:

    Check it out here.

hey im also looking for a cam on my 350, but i wanted something with a somewhat lumpy idle (not to crazy, solid mounts)

i found these on ta in there swap section as new cams, if you could give me some advice it would be greatly apreciated

    350 Street Performance
    ---------lift ------ duration
    intake----.475----- 226
    exhaust --.480----- 235
    lobe sep 112

    350 Hot Street/ Strip Performance
    ---------lift ------ duration
    intake ----.516----- 234
    exhaust --.516----- 244
    lobe sep 110

i think the second cam may be a little much, stock pistons milled head

    TA 212:

Here is what it sounds like with full 2.25 stock exhaust.

    -------------Lift 1.55-----Dur. @.50----Dur. Advertised----rpm range
    --------------IN.---EX.---IN.---EX.---IN.--EX.
    ------------.459"-.470"-218-230-265-280-112 1500-5500

TA 212 Excellent performance cam. Gives 25 HP increase over stock cam. Substantial improvement in power without hurting fuel economy. Stock valve train, converter and gears are ok. Good Idle

what do you mean by full 2.25 stock exhaust

do you mean with stock manifolds and 2.25 dual back?

what im thinking for exhaust is cust headers (they dont exactly make headers for a chevette with a buick 350) with 2.5 to glass packs

Yes, stock manifolds and 2.25 duals with dynomax performance mufflers.

ok, thats what i was thinking

do you think it would be louder with headers?

Can that same cam be had for a 340? love the wave file...man it sounds very nice:grin:

I am sure it would be a little louder with headers...... all depends what mufflers you wanted to use too. The system I have on the car now is just a tiny bit better than stock...... there is all kinds of room for improvement there. I just wanted to keep it stock appearing. Having 3" tail pipes exiting the bumpers kind of gives it away. :pp

I had thought about headers a few times and going to an X pipe....but for how I drive the car I really don't need it. Just more reasons for our local boys to pull me over.

You would have to have a cam custom ground for you. The 340 is a bit different than the 350. Not sure if TA is in to custom grinds.......

i am planning on 2.5" exhaust into glass packs, please dont flame me for this, but does an h pipe or x pipe increase performance? and by how much.

    Ryan,

The X-pipe would be the best way to go!!:TU:

does it increase performance at all or just the way it sounds ?

i think it would have to be an h pipe, dont think there would be enough room to put an x-pipe (its about a 1ft run before the cherry bombs)

There are several advantages of the x-pipe. Bottom line is the increased performance.

**If you want to add even more performance - deep 6 those cherry bombs!!:Brow: :Brow:

    Here is a 2.5"x2.5" unit from PontiacGroup.com - $95 for the junction('x' section).

thats nice and shiny :) however im shure it wouldnt fit (i have very little room for exhaust, aswell as it is very wide apart)

i was thinking of just fabbing an H pipe, i have to tools to do it so..

I think the 300 uses the same cam as the 340...... Someone holler if I am wrong on this.

Hey, Marvin'65 try Isky, they're Johnny-On-The Spot and have great cams. X-Rated, for low compression you'll nead a smallish one, around 240 advertised duration w/ low lift (not over .450 or so) or you will lose low end torque. Trust me, I have built a few 350's. You could go 250 or so duration (advertised) with more gear (at least 3.42) and a little more converter stall speed. For rump-rump you could get by with a 260 duration (advertised), advance the cam 8 degrees, mucho converter (2800-3000 stall), more gear (3.73- 4.10) is my recommendation for low compression. Bigger is not always better.
