The '72's and 73's were really not all that slow, only compared to the 60 and 70 cars. Those are pretty respectable times for relatively heavy cars.:TU:

Don`t I know about heavy cars  ..

I guess i would love to see a 63 SD Tempest sedan or wagon with full Hybrid Drive Train and a Hemi Dart .. I know both are Illegal but would still be very cool .. How about a exhibition run for My Classic Car ??

A car doesn't have to be a 12 or even a 13 second car to compete - but I think some prospective racers don't race because they think their particular car would be "too slow".
It is good to see other cars "run their best".
Has a 67 W30 ever ran? I know that original owner 66 track-pack car has run so it would probably be real close.

    How about a 71' Boss 351 or a 72' 351 HO Mustang?

Where the f--- are the Shelby Mustangs? Or a Boss 429?
I know a Boss 429 would not run well stock - but someone should try!
(I know - a Boss 429 can run great - but it needs headers, a cam, and a big carb.)

Some more of the 50s and early 60s cars would be cool.
I look forward to seeing a J2 Olds!

Sorry - I tend to forget the years when I didn't attend!
    107 MPH for a Boss 351 - that's flyin'!

    Frank:

You're a little mixed up, I think? :Dou:

There was the base 429, otherwise known as the Thunder Jet. This engine was standard on the 1970 Torino Cobra and the Mercury Cyclone (the "base" car, not the GT or Spoiler).

Then there was the Cobra Jet, which was available with or without ram air.

Order the CJ with the Drag Pack and you'd have a Super Cobra Jet. The Drag Pack was available on both CJs, and those with ram air are much more common.

I had a blue 70 torino GT 429 thunder jet auto on the column.
Small port head, hyd. cam, crappy carb.

    CJ 429 -like my 71 GT Torino - Huge port head, hyd.cam ,11.3 comp.(cast piston) rochester Q-jet

SCJ 429- same HUGE port head, solid cam, 11.3 comp,(forged piston) holley carb, and a CAPE like superman !!

How about anything with a Hi-Po 289. Mustang, Fairlane or Comet, and 273 A-body MOPARS. Not the fastest but would be a neat shootout for the PEANUT MOTORS. Oh ya, must be 4-speeds.

My brother Rick has a 65 Barracuda that he's converting from a 3 on the tree six to the correct 273 Formula S pkg with a 4 speed. His plan is to bring it out for Pure Stock as well as local FAST races where he lives (between Scranton, Pa. and Binghamton, NY up in the hills somewhere...  )

He's slow, only thing slower than him is me...He helped me at all the local races for quite a few years when he lived in Michigan (Owosso)...

    Diego,
You're probably correct. This also was the engine available in the T'Birds and big cars of that era. (The Thunderjet) I'm not so certain about the Super CJ's. There was a Ram air version, but I'll have to research the drag pak version some more. I tend to get them confused with the 428 option list (FE variety Frank).
I would really look forward to that Formula S and would still live to see more '50s GM stuff and the Chrysler cars. What happened to those? All at "shine and lie" Shows, and museums?

Often wondered the same thing...why no 55-57 Chevvies? They can't have all been chopped up for race cars....or fluffed up as show poodles....
