This project took about 4 weekends to complete. I have other pics and vids which i will post on my youtube site so be sure to check it out! Tell me what you think about it. When I first started the project, the trunk had old weatherstripping, that nasty black rubbery stuff coating and some rust spots. I wanted a clean looking trunk so I got the idea from a Riviera that was in the, i believe the hot rodders magazine, website (just google sixty-seven buick riviera), it should be the first site thats listed. I liked the set up so much but I didnt have the budget to have some shop make it for me, so I decided to do it on my own. I spent only $80 on materials! Materials consisted of plywood, batting, vinyl, L-brackets, and spray adhesive. Turned out really nice, professional even (haha). Thanks checking it out and dont forget to tell me your opinions.

I like it very much! :TU:
The trunk in my '70 Riv looks like a pile of rags right now.
Someday I'll tear into it and fix things up.

I like that idea! I might do something similar when I get to the interior and so on...about a million years down the road! Looks really professional!

That's not a real trunk. Where are the the dirty shop towels, spare torque wrench, empty water bottles, 5 kinds of quick detail spray and 5 packages of different kinds of dog cookies? And that's just the stuff on top! First it's all the guys showing off their clean engine bays and now you are starting this thing with trunks. This kind of stuff has to sop

Looks really good :TU: but somebody had to stand up for the lazy slob school of trunk detailing (our motto: we just close the lid.)

thanks everyone for the respones, it makes me feel good that i can take something that could be done for hundreds of $$$ for pennies on the dollar =). Im planning on putting a plexiglass circle cutout on the middle panel with the name RIVIERA etched in it.

I think it looks great. I think you could make some good :dollar: if you made a kit and sold it on this website.

    It looks really clean!~:beer

Very nice job. It looks better than one of those shops could do for $$hundreds more. One question, how hard was it to get the material to stay flat on the boards? Did you glue it on or just staple it on the rear?

Making a kit would be nice, it doesn't take that long to make the panels especially because I have the templates for the wood so its eay to cut. I don't know how much people would want to pay for a simple clean trunk enclosure like that? Definatley if I were to make a kit, it would be way cheaper than having a shop do it. Only problem is is that the kit would only be for 66 and 67 riviera models.

As far as what I did to hold the vinyl to the wood panels, I sprayed adhesive on the wood and batting (fabric) and waited until it got tacky then bonded them together. Then I sprayed the batting and vinyl, waited until they both were tacky, then bonded them together. Once the adhesive was dry enough, I flipped the panel over, pulled the vinyl and folded it tight to the backside of the panel and started stapling 1/4 inch staples all around the side, checking periodically that the vinyl side was smooth and had no wrinkles.

Man that's SMOKIN!!!! Ok...now that you've given me an idea...and I thought that I may have an upholsterer do it ($450). What size plywood did you use? How much batting did you use to fill out a piece? Man I've got to think on this...Real easy to do...This will also give me an excuse to get more power tools. And I've got all that trunk space in my Cat too....mmmmmmmm.....was thinkin about fiberglassin it in and makin one big cooler outta it...but what you did was nice..:TU:
